Wait, there is now.

Planetside was (well, is) a massively multiplayer online FPS that makes the round-based matches of Battlefield and other titles look trivial. This is persistent, massive warfare, with thousands of players per side fighting over dozens of bases over hundreds of kilometers of terrain for hours, all around the clock. There is simply no other experience like it, at all, and it's incredibly hard to sum up.

The sequel is due to hit beta sometime this year.

Yeah, that's the idea anyway. I think Planetside 2 will lend itself more to smaller skirmishes and rolling battles with more fighting to control the territory between bases and the supply lines- most of what you'd see in the first game was the mass-fights for the bases with dozens players on each side; fighting outside bases only flared up at towers and the occasional bridge. Terrain was there to look pretty/slow down advances, and most people only saw large swathes of it from the passenger seat of a Galaxy.

Planetside is absolutely unique in the world of MMO and FPS gaming. There is simply nothing that can compare to the kind of things you'll see happening in game, and it's one of those games you'll always have good stories about to trade with other players.

I was quite hyped about this game a while ago, but ever since I preordered Borderland two that hype just kinda faded.

Still looks like a very cool game though.

This is hella fun, although it lags like a ♥♥♥♥♥ when you have 30+ people in one spot.
