One column is real. The other is real-time renders.

Very nice. B is the fake though. The light doesn't work quite right over the picture in the first one, and the TV is all mat in the last. And the chairs are all simplistic.

Exactly, still very impressive though. Not the best example though, lighting wise that is a relatively light scene. Btw, it were the pictures in the second shot that gave it away quite clearly for me. A polygon there wouldn't have hurt anybody.

The real question is, would you have noticed it without the A images?

I know I wouldn't have noticed, but I settle for poor graphics anyway.

Barely, probably not if the paintings actually had geometry.

If the chairs weren't so flat, their wheels weren't all so uniform, and the paintings weren't so jaggy, it'd make it quite a bit harder to tell - and all of those seem like they'd be pretty easy to change. And the most impressive part of it all, is that it's realtime.

Indeed. Also, I neglected to mention the origin of those screenshots- they're caps taken from a demonstration of Kojima Productions' new Fox Engine, which has been in development for quite some time. I don't know if it's finished or not yet, but it's already looking pretty impressive. Of course, to run such a beast would require a relatively high-end computer- there's no way in hell a PS3 or 360 could do it- so I think it's safe to assume that Fox Engine is going to show up on the next generation of consoles, which I'm very happy about since Kojima has already said that he does plan on making a Metal Gear Solid 5. Fox Engine could very well be used in the next Kojima game, which might be a launch title (or at least a relatively quick release) on the next Sony console, though this is just conjecture on my part.

I found out the Outerra engine had an alpha release today. There was only one reasonable thing to do: Ramp off the side of the Grand Canyon in a truck to the tune of "The Final Countdown."

I don't think this is the most efficient use of a multi-million dollar VTOL jet, but it is incredibly amusing.
