Swarm Descent is a fast paced arena space shooter.
The game itself is only 4 MB to download, and there's no installation. Once you start the exe it throws you straight into the game.
Easy.

There's only a slight explaination of the controls/mechanics in the game, so here's some more detail for those who want it:
    Your ship has an energy level, which is critical to the game.
      You lose energy for getting shot.
      You gain energy for killing enemies.
      Energy is lost over time.
      If your energy reaches zero, you lose.
    WASD or Arrow keys move your ship around.
    Left-Clicking fires, hold it down for automatic fire.
      Each shot consumes energy.
    Pressing space activates Overdrive.
      This increases your rate of fire and speed, as well as making you invincible to enemy fire.
      Being in Overdrive consumes energy almsot ten times as fast as normal.


I'm working on it all by my lonesome in Multimedia Fusion 2, having made everything but the music, which I got off of my copy of FL Studio. (I couldn't make good music to save my life, and this just, well, fit.)

Though I'm making this for myself, and I have a view of what I want the game to be, I'm still looking for ideas to get me to where I want to go.
That's why I live off of feedback.

If you want specifics, I could really use some general opinions on the gameplay, and some bug/performance reports.


NOTE: I am making this in MMF2, so any changes anyone might suggest will be pretty damn easy to implement - so don't be shy. For example, if someone suggested adding a cost to entering Overdrive so that you couldn't tap it to block shots, I could do that in about five seconds so we could try it out. I'm not afraid to try new things, and I'm completely open to suggestions.

my FPS starts at 100 but generally stays between 50FPS and 60FPS during the "flying while getting shot".
i had quite some fun playing for awhile, almost kill 1,000 ships (i assume the blue counter is the score while the Red counter is how many hit you took)
suggestion as of now are , Menu screen leaderboard and a few upgrades that randomly fall off ships as well as different weapons and more different ships.

Overroll i enjoyed myself more than i thought.

It says at the beginning, white is for energy, blue is for kills, red is for shots taken.
It's oddly patriotic, now that I think about it.

Anyway, 1,000 kills without dying is fairly impressive. I'll look into a local leader board, it shouldn't be too hard. An online leader board, well, I'd need a server for that. A main menu would be a piece of cake.
I'm planning to make it so that you can spend energy to upgrade your ship.
There will be WAY more than two enemy types by the time I'm done with this baby.
Temporary power ups will come for sure!

50-60 fps isn't very good. When I play it usually goes between 80-100, so I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. I'll look into optimization.

I wouldn't look into it much, my pc is hardly standardized for the population of people. (in short i have one Gig memory and i use vista.)
i think the only game where i maintain a 100FPS is Star wars jedi knight 3 Jedi academy (awesome game as well)

Either way it only goes down to that limit with the screen is full of ships and lasers.

another suggestion which i just thought of is a range of different ships to use as well as being able to design your own as well as having the ability to place where gun turret's will be and placing more than one but at the cost of something else.
EDIT: do you happen to have a link to the music used? oddly i like it which is kinda strange since im not fully into techno style music.

For some reason I saw sperm shooting little spermlets at cells.

If you're wanting the actual music I can do that. (It was included as an example in my copy of FL Studio)
