Post Re: RTD: Serious Theology
hokay finally JEGUS

~~~~~~~~~
Jahn's Freehold is older than you think. There's probably soil and rock somewhere, but most of the Freehold was built on the remains of other Freeholds, basements on top of dungeons on top of ancient tombs on top of the Gods alone know what's beneath those tombs.
The delegates have dematerialized, and the crowd has dispersed. But the dust of a sub-sub-cellar is being disturbed...
To a certain cast of mind, the forbidden has always been rather attractive. These minds, however, are scarcely human anymore.
A ritual is being conducted. The ritual that will shatter the future and change the course of eternity.
Nighthawk, 6. > Put on my fancy-shmancy ring and see what it does.
You slide the ornate ring on your finger and tap a thoughtful rhythm on its gem. You realize what's happening when you see a faint distortion around your hand and see glowing runes appear on the gold.
The distortion envelops your whole body and solidifies into a baby-blue shell of energy. You are safe from physical harm, most magics, and also air.
Although you have to deal with the hassle of breaking the shield open, you have upgraded your Barrier Ring into an Arcane Bulwark. You can now reinforce your shields with sufficient willpower, and can also project shields for others.
Name: Reynard Heinson
Equipment: Arcane Bulwark, Rune-Knife, "Most Holy is His Wrath".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Active Abilities:
Conditions:
Suffocating: will pass out in two turns.
Izen, 5. >Load gun, browse a bit more through the book, just in case.
You fiddle with the Popper's drum mechanism until it clicks open, and slot in some double-loaded cartridges. Then you open "Strength Through the Iron" again and read.
"All Forge-Gifts must be properly anointed and cleansed by ritual. In doing so, we draw most Holy Machina's providence upon ourselves, and ensure that we may secure humanity's birthright. Weapons blessed by the strong in faith are glorious to behold in their devastation, and our sacred and immaculate armor deflects the foulest of Heresy."
You study over the Litanies of Machina's Favour; after all, you are his Hammer and Anvil. You take upon yourself the mantle of Cog-Devout, and can now sanctify any Machina or non-affiliated artifact to enhance its capabilities. Your blessings are not that strong, however, and wear off in a few turns.
You can also weaken and rust the weapons of your foes, through the ritual known as Iron Blight.
Name: Agrath
Equipment: Mark 5 Steelwarden Suit, Popper LMG (80/80 Double), "Strength Through the Iron".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Hammer-Novice: maintain gear, forge basic stuff + ammo.
Cog-Devout: temporary gear blessings.
Active Abilities:
Iron Blight: weakens enemy equipment.
Conditions:
caekdaemon, 5. Read more of the book...
You continue turning pages, and come to another hastily scrawled note.
"they breached the gate
don't know how much longer we can hold out, the Prophet is speaking to what little men we have
I can hear the screams from the rooms we lost, Jahn
if you can read this, get to the center. they need to know, if only to evacuate
He is here and nothing matters"
Oh Gods.
The rest of the page is, fortunately, intact. It is filled with various passages of religious scripture. You memorize them, and notice something odd: there are some for every god, even though Impar shouldn't have been around then.
You have gained Divine Favor. Through your pantheon-worship, you are tolerated by all the gods, despite their often bizarre and conflicting natures. This provides a host of random positive effects when you pray.
Name: Bob Of the House Of Jones
Equipment: Reaver, Armor of Woe, "INCANTATIONS FOR THE WISE".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Divine Favor: positive effects upon prayer.
Active Abilities:
Conditions:
Asklar, 4. >Study carefully the weapon and practice it's use.
You carefully examine the strange assembly welded to the dagger handle, closely studying the control buttons in particular. There's the one you pressed earlier, yes, and there's another, smaller button.
You press it, and the dagger flashes white-hot, crackling and spewing molten metal, at which point you drop it in a panic, shutting it off. There is a small click and a compartment pops open, revealing the drained fuel reservoir.
You can now activate an extreme heat mode for the dagger at the cost of fuel and the chance of malfunction.
Name: Charles Cross
Equipment: Promethean Dagger (0/4), Spymaster's Vestment, "Glory to the Perfect Human".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Active Abilities:
Conditions:
Ociamarru, 4. Investigate my Warpknife, fiddling with it by drawing in the ground with it.
You play around with the Warpknife, etching a drawing into the floor beneath you. It's uncannily sharp, and you have to pause occasionally to blow stone dust off the blade.
You twist the knife just so and four smaller blades slice outward, nicking your hand. As soon as you drop the Warpknife to stanch your bleeding fingers the blades vanish. Ouch.
You can now get some a yeh olde multiblades, at the cost of the willpower needed to warp space.
Name: Damien Grimmhilde
Equipment: Warpknife (Four), Symbiotic Armor, "BEYOND THE MIND".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Stranger: demoralizes, less human.
Active Abilities:
Nightmare: coma, damage.
Conditions:
nicolasx, 2. Read some of this parchment if I can.
It's difficult, but you start to make something out...
"I see you."
Name: David Roffellon
Equipment: Entropic Katanas, Planewalker's Robe, "OUTSIDE".
Inventory (0/10):
Passive Abilities:
Active Abilities:
Conditions:
There is a horrible burning light, and you gaze into the maw of oblivion.
D'ya still think it'll be up tonight? If so, I'll stay up until you roll. Otherwise, I'll go to sleep in an hour or two.
Wield my Warpknife after picking it up off the ground, and accompany the big man in the big suit with the big gun.
"We may not follow the same God, but it is still mutually beneficial for us to stay alive, my friend. And this...this is a forsaken place. Tread carefully."
"Hmm... Well this is a new one... I'll read my book and see if I can find something out about our present situation."
Read more of the book in search of information about this place.
Everyone's "gazing into the maw of oblivion", by the way. The ritual has been finished, and you are uprooted in time. I'm really sorry I didn't make that more clear.
Welcome to the Maw. The literal Maw. A gaping pit across multiple planes, home to the Infinite Corruptor. You are at the bottom.
Alright then. I've adjusted my post, but I have not changed my action.
