I think these purple golems are a higher priority target.

I feel as though I wasted money on focusing on melee, I would've done more damage with a big-ass gun and that way I wouldn't have to get right up close and personal...

It appears that some rounds seem to focus on different kinds of enemies. This round, range seems to be the best. I assume that the next round melee combat will become important again.
