Hopefully. All I really want is to be able to work for at least 6 hours a day on this project, I honestly don't care for money one bit, as long as my rent is payed and I don't starve to death.
I wish there was a way for a simple indie like me to get funded...or at least win a lottery or something.

Well after you deem it worthy of release put on steam for $5-10 and at least like 10,000 of a few milloin will buy it.You do the math.Cause on steam everygame is on front page(new releases)and so this is more advice for much later in development.

how easy would you say modelling compare to spriting? in terms of how easy would it be for a experience spriter to move onto doing models?

Not very?
You do realize that it's extremely different in the respect that sprites are flat and models are 3d. Models also usually take a much longer time to get finished, possibly taking months depending.

It's like if a country singer asks how easy it would be to transition into clay sculpting.

I started out on Wings 3D. I love it, it was easy to get into for me. However, I haven't really taken a stab at anything more complicated than heavy feeling spaceship things, so I may be biased.

Spriting skills *might* help you with texturing but otherwise it's 2 completely things.
If you want to learn 3D Modeling I'll be glad to teach you the basics, if you've got Skype so we can chat. :)

Though the knowledge of shape and shading, that an experienced spriter should have, will come in handy when making 3d models.
Also It's not too difficult to learn the basics actually, as long as he's willing to practice on his own.

Yeeeaah...The problem is to get to that "worthy of release" state. According to my estimations, if I work 6 hours a day, I will be able to complete this game in 4-6 months. Since I'm not able to work as much as I'd like to, this will take twice as much time.
I would prefer getting there sooner than later but there's nothing I can do about it.

P.S. I wound a very nice Swedish guy who kindly offered me to make music for me, for free. I listened to some of his other work and it sounds quite good, he said he'll have a demo song in a week or so.

So two forms of art is the same as a singer and another form of art?
Bad example is quite bad.
i assume you meant to mean something along the lines of a country singer deciding to go into Death metal. both requires the same basic's however are very different forms of learning.
Either way i may give wings 3D a try.

I would advice you not to, if you're serious about modeling. Blender is almost as easy to learn but in addition, it's capable of doing everything, and if you're not serious then I'd advice you to try out Scetch-Up instead, it's very easy to learn (but it's not that great as you might've figured out).

I personally always liked drawing toony characters with tiny feet and hands, but I think that I'm minority in that.

Wow...I mean WOW!
I googled the name of my game, just for fun and found out that there are tons of Russian warez websites have "pirated" my game. My unfinished game. They even posted some screenshots and my development video along with it.
I counted the amount of downloads on those sites and they're estimated at THOUSANDS downloads.
I'm completely stunned.
