Okay, Contrary, lemme try to get the whole thing clear to you:

-Computer Formatting checklist:
1-Does my computer have an active cd/dvd drive? y/n
2-Do I have the installation disk for the operating system I want to use? y/n
3-Did I write up the names and brands of all my computer's components? ie. video/audio boards, HHDs. y/n
4-Did I backup any and all data which I want to keep? y/n
5-Am I familiarised with the process for formatting (ie. wiping out) a hard disk? y/n
6-Shall I know no fear? y/y

If the answer to any of these questions was no, then you might have, depening on which one, either minor troubles when installing your OS, to a complete nightmare emergency repair session through a whole night. You can ask for more specifics if you don't get some of the steps of the process.
