Post Re: The Lounge
Seriously, I get banned for pointing out when people are being idiots, and this kid gets to do whatever he wants?

FACT: Pretty much no one likes him except TLB

FACT: He knows this

FACT: He only posts here to to be irritating

FACT: He does this without consequence.

Look, I'd make some elaborate insult concerning large objects being put into small orifices, but I haven't really been feeling it. But in any case, fact of the matter is, this guy is a twat and dumb and annoying.

Normally I'd go on a little stupid crusade and scream at him in all caps at every post he makes, but I am pretty sure I am on his foe list, and he will see neither my posts or pms. Not that that has shown to work, in any case.

It's not even that he posts are super irritating or anything, I mean you get accustomed to it, but it's that they are always meant to be irritating.

One could very well add him to one's own foe list, and save themselves from having to see his posts, but that's not a solution at all. The big problem, for me, personally, is that having him clearly tolerated shows to everyone who reads this forum that he is a part of a community. It sends the messages that we are like him, and his behaviour is ok.

So not that I can really do anything, but I just wanted to get this out there. I don't know how others feel the same way, but I'm disappointed to see this decay of the community.

If you establish statements as facts, I hope you can bring up proof to show their facthood.

Oh man, everytime I open your posts it's something about me.
Loosen the ♥♥♥♥ up already, kid. The reason I post here still is to not give in to shitheads like you who's parents were too ♥♥♥♥ strict. It's more of a pride thing than anything else I guess. .

But really. I'm just trying to have a good time. Probably not in the most adequate way, but overall still trying to. And you should do.

I'll take the warning for being so offensive.

He is part of the community. His behaviour is (generally) perfectly okay. Yes, his way of putting things does gets on people's nerves - including mine from time to time - but that's by no means a bannable offense, and in most cases, it's not even a warnable one. Even so, he's been warned for things and temporarily banned for things that actually are against the rules, just as you have. The only reason he doesn't get more warnings is that you people are constantly provoking him. I'm not going to shoot a dog for biting you while you're wearing a suit made of meat and dancing around in front of him squirting yourself with barbecue sauce.

Honestly, the "decay" that really disappoints me in this community is that more and more, people can't seem to comprehend the idea that some people are different than them. This is happening more and more with new users. The issue is that the forum seems to have formed a big group of "bros" and anybody who acts differently than said "bros" is treated as an outcast. That isn't okay, and I'm not going to let it go on any longer. I'm not saying this has to be happy-nicey-funville, but honestly, I've seen a ridiculous number of people be turned away from the forums simply because everyone here is being rude to them over some tiny mistake they made. DRLFF actually has a reputation of being complete ♥♥♥holes with some people (I've seen this being mentioned on other forums, can't be bothered to find a link at the moment).

New people joining the forums are important to the Data Realms, because they're usually either customers or potential customers. This is where people get support for the game, this is where people share their thoughts and mods for the game, and this is where they build an actual community for the game. You may have noticed that the community is much smaller today than it was, say, a year or two ago. There's only one way to fix that (spoilers: new people joining), and unless the forum looks like a nice place to join, nobody's going to do that. Right now, this doesn't look like a nice place to join. It looks like a place where, the second you post, you will be judged by the community, and if you pass judgment and kiss a lot of ass, maybe then you can say something. For the time being, you may not find this concerning, but I can say for a fact that Data does. He doesn't visit here often, but you may recall what happened last time he noticed something amiss in the community. Anybody remember weasel? For the time being, I'm essentially doing his job (if only because there's nobody else doing it), but there could just as well be another weasel in the future unless we turn this place around a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think everyone here pretty much unanimously prefers the way I'm running things over the way things would be run under a paid community manager.

So, here's the deal: you don't have to like BigBomb, you don't have to like any new users, you don't even have to like the old users, but when you're posting on this site, you will shut up about it. Leave it up to the moderators to decide whether something is against the rules, and stop calling people out in public (or, for that matter, in private). The hate-bandwagoning going on in this place is ridiculous, and it needs to stop now.

Thank you TLB. I have tried and tried, and there is nothing in that wall of text that I don't agree with.
If you don't like someone, fine. Just don't be an ass about it. Nobody cares if you think such and such is a dumb, and thinking that way only makes you look even more stupid.

@Duh

1. I can't guarantee everyone hates him, but a very large number of people have stated their hatred towards him. On your own forum, and on here. I can link you to them if you don't remember.

2. He has expressed his knowledge with question like "why does everyone hate me" and such and so forth. Today you said

(20:37:33) Duh102: BB was thinking of leaving a while back
(20:37:48) Duh102: but because he was so vehemently opposed he began to think of himself as a sort of martyr

Making himself take more heat is a good way to make yourself seem like a martyr.

3. I admit that this was exaggeration. I suppose he also comes here to download mods. However it is undeniable that a quick scroll down his recent posts gives off more flames than a quick scroll down even mine.

4. Today you told me your policy was strictly to not moderate his actions as harshly as others.

@Bigbomb "Bigbomb: None of you want to talk ♥♥♥♥ out" Funny guy. I've tried to talk to you man to man several times. All you do is call me a child, then you ignore me. I would really like to work it out privately, but kind of hard when you've made all of my pms be instantly deleted upon reaching you and all my messages to you on irc get ignored.

@TLB First of all, I appreciate the extensive reply. Second of all, I hope it's clear that I am aware that I have and still do act with an obnoxious sense of self-righteousness. But this is something that personally, I feel needs to be said, and many are in support of what I say. We know you've made it clear you are open to discussion on moderator matters, but some people don't like to dirty their hands with this kind of confrontation. I am aware I'm making a huge ass out of myself right now, probably losing a lot of respect this way, but I really want to express this.

I do agree that it is a terrible thing to not give newcomers a chance to speak. My own first posts were awful, I know this and everyone is free to check. However, I think that your friend brings in another extreme. I think the BigBomb is a very advanced warning of a different kind of forum. No exactly a mean community, but a really ♥♥♥♥ one. I'm pretty sure there are reasons the members of this forum like the forum, aside from the amazing mods. We like this forum because it has a lower tolerance for stupidity. Everyone has seen the really garbage communities that some games have. As much as I hate to say this, look on the official forums for Call of Duty. It's bad. Just skimming through the forums you hear mentions of bad communities like Haven and Hearth, Warning Forever, etc. But again the example of the CoD community. It's very large, but most of that weight is stupid, obnoxious, ♥♥♥holes. A forum full of BigBombs, no matter how large, is not one I would want to join. I think we all have been turned off communities, not my how mean they are, but by how irritating they are.

And really, I don't think this forum is really that mean. I think there was probably a period where it was, but I think the people of this forum gives new members a fair shake. Am I too quick to judge? Is Lizard too quick to judge? Tom? Non? Grif? Duh asked me for specific examples of my claims, I'd like to ask you to do the same. Where have I or another immediately pounced on a newbie for some minor thing? I don't think we are currently some sort of bropublic as you claim, there are many outsiders who have been liked from the get-go. Soupiest was liked. Abdul was liked. Nonsequitorian was, when he first joined, new and pretty different. He was still liked. Look at general discussion right now. The new kids are pretty well received. Even salix catus, who can't even post coherently, is being well received. This is a ♥♥♥♥ nice community.

I am as concerned for this community as you are TLB. You may not hear it, but there are complaints. You have given me fair warning and you are completely in the right give me whatever punishment you see is fit. But I mean, if a guy is too afraid to say what he thinks anonymously, to strangers, across the internet, then something is ♥♥♥♥ up. I know you are a moderator, but I hope we can have the ability to pipe up and say what we think, too.

So that's basically what I think.

This probably seems inadequate considering the massive post size it's following, and probably also seems like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ banding together or what not, but I'm going to agree with most of Contrary's points.

Post Re: The Lounge
At the risk of sounding like Dr. Phil:

Contrary is a pretty cool bro who in my opinion has done nothing wrong other than disagree with BigBomb's behavior, and he can't be fully blamed for expressing his opinion.

The community's initial reaction to BigBomb wasn't the best, sure, but he didn't exactly help things when he (albeit fairly) returned the favor and flamed anyone who flamed him; you can't blame him for that, but you can't blame Contrary for finding that offensive. BigBomb wasn't doing anything unprovoked and I'm not going to paint him as some troll because that's not what he is.

What's basically happened here is a little piece of internet drama that's nobody's particular fault- Big could have used an attitude change, we could be more welcoming or accepting of people who don't immediately gel with us, and so on and so forth- but trying to force people into liking/tolerating each other through warnings and implications just doesn't work, all it does is perpetuate this cycle of anger and flaming.

So shut up.

You two need to talk things out, as I've talked to both of you and you've both said that you'd like to work things out in private, mano el mano, so why don't you actually DO it?

TLB and the rest of the mod team, everyone can certainly appreciate you guys trying to keep the community together, especially when there's such a rift being caused by an utterly petty issue, but there's only so much a third party can do- a lot depends on these two.
