Re: Peak Oil
Apparently this will solve all our problems in this regard. I really hope it's true and not just the media being incompetent at fact checking.

Dr. Evil: The phrases you are looking for are: unsubstantiated claims, sharpshooter fallacy, misinterpretation and misuse of statistics. TrouserDemon: It doesn't list details of yield, maintenance conditions, etc. If indeed the bacteria are able to complete this process at a high speed with good yield, low molecule waste and under moderate temperature and pressure conditions then it is probably going to be pretty useful. Otherwise, it will join the pile of interesting yet unfeasible synthesis pathways.

But still, conservation of energy applies, so where's the catch? 411570N3 wrote: Dr. Evil: The phrases you are looking for are: unsubstantiated claims, sharpshooter fallacy, misinterpretation and misuse of statistics.

Re: Peak Oil
I just read the first five comments for that article and one guy worked out: Laid Back wrote: (1) 800 barrels per year per acre is 2.2 barrels per acre per day. (2) The US consumes 20 million barrels per day. (3) This will require 9 million acres [ (2) divided by (1) ] (4) One square kilometer is 247 acres (4) 9 million acres is 36,800 square kilometers [ (3) divided by (4) ]
This is about the size of the state of Indiana.

Re: Peak Oil
This is the exact reason why I find America to be a horrible country. If what stated in that video is actually to come forth, it will mean that America just ruined the ENTIRE WORLD.

Re: Peak Oil
I don't want to live on this world anymore. Seriously, I do not want to reach adulthood as the world falls to ♥♥♥♥ pieces. I really hope this isn't as bad as that video makes it out to be, but to be honest I'm guessing it's even worse.

Re: Peak Oil
Personally, I want nuclear power and if the government has to force it on the people to accept it, they should. Also, what happened to Coal Liquefaction?

Re: Peak Oil
All of what was said in the video will eventually happen, Europe is just trying to contain it to the US itself, instead of completely taking down the world economy.
Honestly I think it's all going to come crashing down in a year or so. The only way to "solve" a crisis this bad would be for a non-nuclear third world war to happen.

Re: Peak Oil
Can I just pop in and say that if you base your entire political opinion off of videos and articles on the internet, no matter how valid they may be, you're a ♥♥♥♥ moron. Thanks.

Re: Peak Oil
Sorry what. I walk into this thread and my first impression is a lot of people (not everyone) who are throwing around the most random links like they're gospel truth. Testsubject especially.
