The thing is Darkdoom, you're still like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to most of us. Honestly, I was slightly surprised to see that you've been here over a year, because it doesn't seem like it's been that long. You're definitely not as new as the new-new members, but you're certainly not an 'equal' to the majority of the older fanbase.

Very true, ragdoll. I am still a bit of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥. but still, I am more equal than the said new-new members.
Just to clarify, I am not calling myself equal to those above me, but relatively more equal than people who are newer than me.

I would like to say that everyone is 'equal' however that would be exceptionally cheesy and I don't really like cheese.
That said I don't really understand what makes everyone think that being an older member makes you a better member of the forum, so to speak.

Well, most of the time the oldest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are the most distinguished ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and being around the longest, they are most respected. It is the same as respecting your elders, they are your elders, and therefore they are respected.

Damn straight. I expect at least three new forum members to be at my beck and call all the time.
But in all seriousness, the reason "Older = better" is because if you've been around longer you've generally contributed things, or at least proven yourself not to be a total ♥♥♥♥. Newer members don't have that "proven" quality to them. Additionally, and this may just be me, but I operate on the assumption that most new forum members are like me when I first joined. That is, they're young, stupid, and think editing 2 values in ammo.ini makes them hot ♥♥♥♥. So I'm more inclined to treat those newer members worse, until they've proven they're worth something.

Darkdoom it's not really about how long people have been here, it's how they act. There are members who have acted fine right out the gate. Example: Abdul was always awesome and always made great stuff. As far as I'm concerned, you, Miggles, and Bigbomb more or less occupy the same bubble.

Probably not a good idea to try to explicitly study the pecking order though.

Older people on the forum tend to get more respect, but that doesn't mean that people who just joined deserve any less respect. I'm not exactly sure what being "equals" would mean on this forum anyway. What exactly should these "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" be doing to show their respect to you, oh he who is of greater join date? Should they offer you gifts before asking questions about the game? Should they should shower you with praise whenever they make a comment on a mod? Maybe they should just stand at attention before posting in the same thread as you.
Seriously, people, get over yourselves. You gain respect by contributing to the community, not by being around for a long time. Even if somebody has yet to gain any respect, that doesn't mean you should look down on the person, much less be an ♥♥♥hole to them.

Basically what contrary said. Contrary to popular belief, I don't instantly hate absolutely everyone. I'm totally willing to give most people a lot of chances, and even if I yell at you I'm generally willing to let it go if you are.

@Tomaster I agree, of course I have yet to actually contribute something. I always feel inadequate and second guess myself before posting anything. Then I started the Black Ops project, and now we are stuck where we are for various reasons.

@Contrary Like I said, when I first joined, I tried my best not to really do anything until I got the feel of the forum and the game and felt like I could contribute. My first post for example, my only purpose was to give feedback and a small suggestion.

@Grif I don't hate anyone instantly either, I simply judge them on how they act. If they act like newbies, I treat them as such. If they act sophisticated and kind, I treat them as normal members. Of course that is a generalization.

@BigBomb I rank people like that simply because that is the way every forum I have even been to does it. I don't see rank as childish.

EDIT: @TheLastBananna I neither ask for nor deserve any such treatment. I am just saying that there is a respect for older members newer members simply do not receive. Even if they prove themselves, all they can hope to do is be the best of their generation. True, some may become as respected and high as the greatest among us, but for most they will be considered new until the next generation.
