GO NORTH
LOOK ROOM

You go NORTH and LOOK at the room. Your LIT CANDLE lets you see in the room, which would otherwise be too dark to see in. There's not a whole lot in it. Above you is a glass globe filled with some wires. The EAST wall is filled with complicated piping, one PIPE of which looks seriously out of shape. In the corner is a crate with a piece of PAPER on it, and on the floor below the piping is a small BRASS ROD.




What do you do?

GO SOUTH

USE COAL ON FURNACE
USE BUCKET OF WATER ON BOILER
USE TINDERBOX ON FURNACE

You go SOUTH. You take a CHUNK OF COAL and place it in the FURNACE. You repeat this until it is full. You empty the WATER BUCKET into the BOILER. You repeat this until it is full. You light the FURNACE with the TINDERBOX. The FURNACE heats up quickly and begins boiling the water in the BOILER. You hear steam escaping through a pipe in the roof, and machinery begins to work above you. The room to the NORTH becomes light. You hear a hissing sound in the room to the NORTH.

You GET the PAGE. You LOOK at the PAGE. It seems to be a page from a journal, page 18 to be exact.
You also notice there is a door to the NORTH.

LOOK ROOM

You GO SOUTH. You LOOK at the BRONZE DOOR. It is a large bronze door with a window in it. The window is barred, but outside you can see stone steps leading upward, Jan's basket of traveling goods, and a brass lamp emitting enough light to see the room with. You cannot move it, and it has not weakened any appreciable amount since you last checked.
You GO NORTH (twice). You LOOK at the room. The NORTH wall of this room is occupied with a large and very complicated looking COMBINATION MACHINE, with small brass pipes roving across its entire surface. The front has three NUMBER WHEELS mounted in it, and a hole where a fourth would go. Each wheel has roman numerals inscribed along the edge, 0-9. There is also a large lever lying on the floor next to a socket that it obviously fits in. Lying on the floor in front of a pile of small boxes is a PIPE. On top of the pile of boxes is a HAMMER. There are doors in the WEST and EAST, as well as the one you came through to the SOUTH.

You can fit the PIPE in your inventory, but not both it and the HAMMER. You may only have 5 items in your inventory at a time, you'll have to DROP one before you can GET another.

You DROP the JOURNAL PAGE 18. You TAKE the HAMMER and PIPE. You USE the HAMMER on the LEAKY PIPE. You dent the LEAKY PIPE, making it leak more. You guess you'll have to actually dismount it rather than hope to break it off, as it's not looking like brute force will take it off.
