Re: The Lounge
Oddly enough, the site name is in the URL.
Anyway, I've been up for a little over 64 hours straight now. It's starting to get pretty trippy. My walls are all wavvy, and my computer monitor is expanding and contracting with no apparent pattern. Occasionally as I type I'll feel like my body is being put on an incline slope, but as soon as I look down, it goes back to normal. Also, I keep seeing things flickering in and out of my peripheral vision, and it's a little paranoia inducing.

Re: The Lounge
I personally think that compulsory service would be a good thing.
Anyway, I think that people who serve in the military are selfless people (for the most part), and I admire them.

Re: The Lounge
The issue with compulsory service is there are people who are really averse to the idea of fighting, whether it be for religious reasons or because they're just super-pacifists. I guess there are plenty of non-combat roles in the military, but even then, some people would have an issue with directly supporting the military.
Person I have great respect for people who join the military. Even though some of them are just bloodthirsty lunatics and some of them just join to use it for say, college scholarships, there are plenty of people who join with the intentions of protecting their country and its rights, which is something that anyone should be able to respect, regardless of their nationality.

Re: The Lounge
Guess what guise? Finland has compulsory military service. Or you can choose to go do some community service but only sissies go there.

Re: The Lounge
Eh, down here it is compulsory. However, pretty much 95% of people end up not doing it.
Why, you ask?
First, we got one big population and a very small military budget. The government simply can't pay for more than a few recruits each year. Second, entering the military requires, as Rag said, either bloodthirsty madness, the expectation of receiving some sort of reward, or a genuine sense of duty. We are just too chill for the first one, the salary is too low to justify the second, and, quite frankly, the concept of dying for the honor/safety of your country is just absolutely alien to a brazilian. What is the country but a series of political positions and regulations? It is as abstract to us as a sphere is to a bidimensional being.

Re: The Lounge
Do you guys get migraines ever? Like from chlorine, at the pool, or anything? Cause I've had one for over 24 hours, and its starting to be really intolerable. Hopefully I'll find some kind of medication sometime soon.

Re: The Lounge
I am by no means a person that does drugs often. Hell the only drug I've even tried is cannabis, and that has been in small amounts 3 times or so. I do however have a fair amount of knowledge of drugs due to a project I had to do for school some time ago. Sure, this gives me no authority on the subject of drugs, but holy ♥♥♥♥ I hate people who do drugs but have no idea about what they're doing. What pisses me off even more is when they use their addiction as authority on the subject, completely ignoring my knowledge when arguing for the simple reason that "I have never used any of these substances". When they later steal my bottles to turn in the deposit on them without even asking if they can (to which I might have said yes, in my drunken state), makes me write bad rants on internet forums in a off-topic topic.

UK here, and I don't see the massive fuss about the military. People seem to care a lot more than I do, though.

P3lb0x, maybe this question is a bit to direct, but I just need to ask you. Are you gay?
