Fun fact: My camera actually has a great macro mode, I'd just forgotten to turn it on.

HURP DE DURP.

Also, my favourite so far:

Clearly related.

Moving on. That actually looks pretty good and pretty much tabletop worthy. Though I can see some mold lines.

Why, thank you.

As to the mold lines, well, this was actually my model number zero (I keep track of the order in which I paint them), the one which had a coat of bad paint and was left in soapy water for a week. In my naïve noobishness, I forgot to scrape off the lines until I'd glued him to the base, so I couldn't reach the inside of his legs with the knife.

I don't think it's too noticeable IRL, but it's something I'm working on improving.

Space marine batteforce for 80 bucks, so 30 less than pretty much anywhere else. How do these people even stay in business.

Even with delivery costs, it's still cheaper than buying it off the shelf of a GW store. You sure the offer is legit?

Also, I think I've been able to track down some washes, even though they're the Vallejo ones. I'll check out the store tomorrow. If worst comes to worst, I think I might be able to homebrew some with watered down grey ink and glue.

Which leads to a question. How exactly are you supposed to apply washes to a model? Do you aim for a uniform coat over the whole surface, or do you keep to lining over recesses? I've been working hard to find some tutorials on this, but even the GW books are pretty reticent over the matter. What are you guys' experiences with it?

For a very dirty look, splash it all over, for a more subtle shade, apply to recesses.

I made a longer post a couple of pages back, don't feel like digging it up.

So yeah, I managed to alchemize myself a bit of grey wash. Sure, it seeped into every nook and cranny, making some really neat effects on recessed parts, but also made the model look absolutely filthy and stained, much like what happened to Foil. I spent the evening trying to clean it up, but in the process the darkened areas were erased.

Alas, I'm now permanently jaded against washes. Well not really, they may actually be really useful, but applying them over a yellow model is way above my skill level.

Just don't smear it on like it's house paint. What I tend to do is apply a medium coat all over the intended area, and then remove puddles and the excess with a clean brush. This creates a sort of light coat all over the model, darkening it and making details stand out a lot more. It's arduous and will look like ♥♥♥♥ if you're not careful, but the results, especially on metallics, are absolutely worth it.

If I'm able to get off my ass and prime my termies I'll do some before and after shots.

On an unrelated note. Static grass is this any good? Better yet, is there anything better? (preferably on the same site, since they have free shipping.)

Also, metal bwakses. Should they be on my priority list?

Hmm. I might test that technique. Still a bit unconfident.

Also, if that's the same static grass I have (looks like it), then it's actually pretty pretty good, gives a good effect with little effort. You might consider also getting the non-flock version, for tall grass and the like.

EDIT: I just love how chunky this one's gun came out. The rest of the model ended up a bit rough, though, since I had to use a thicker yellow coat to cover up the wash disaster.

the gun came out fairly well. The only grip is the somewhat crooked lines of red. To make straight lines I suggest marking them first with a sharpie or similar.

On an unrelated note as usual I just got my Land raider. ♥♥♥♥ finally.

And I got myself some army painter blue primer to save a lot of work and lousy painting. The only grudge I have is that it isn't really as dark as the standard ultramarine blue. Maybe I'll try a combination of black primer and then blue, in order to darken it a bit.

-edit-

Well, that failed. Looks like the raider's gonna have a different blue. And two of the termies.

Well that sucks. Can't you darken it with some drybrushed UM blue or something?

Also, finally found someone with vallejo washes. Expensive as **** and will take a month for them to arrive, but it's better than nothing.

General Tip: It may help some people (like me) to paint each part individually under a very large magnifying lens before assembly. It certainly helps to clear up those edges and to prevent paint spillover. You can also focus on details a lot more that way.

Okay, my plans of getting off-country ended up crashing into a wall. I blame the soviets.

However, I have managed to locate a smugglenurse who will be in Portugal for a brief window of time this July. So, anyone (ie. Foil) knows of good hobby shops in Lisbon?

Interesting. You have my gratitude.

Also, it's already been a month and my B&K package has yet to arrive. Curse transatlantic shipping.

EDIT: Well, it seems it has finally arrived. And boy oh boy, was it worth the wait. I'm really looking forward to painting my... let's say "dreadnought", since that's what it'll count as.

Also, after a brief raid on the local communist party headquarters, my travel plans have apparently uncrashed out of the wall. So today's my lucky day I guess?
