Re: What's Behind the Alias?
Well... I came across this picture of a rat tied to a stick by its tail and being used as a flail one day(VG cats), and I thought "Wow, that would make a pretty Fail Flail." After several onomatopoeic words and a sprinkle of pixie dust, I turned up here. From that moment on i have been unable to shake that name, as it turns out 'John117' and 'CaptainRyu' are taken up every where else Anyway, I do go by CognitiveWhale a bit now (god bless XBL random name gen)If anyone cares.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
I wish it was something spectacular like: I once knifed four burglars in complete darkness. But it's not. I was little, am not a native english speaker so didn't know of the word and its meaning back then but I loved the sound of its pronounciation. It stuck on me after that. Unfortunately, it's usually already taken on popular websites. Go figure. (To explain the screenshot: Doom II, level 20, level name: Gotcha!)

It just stuck from then. What does that guy on your avatar say?????It is just amazing how it just hits you in the eyes whit that jumping di** and how funny it is and that look LOOOL!!!!BUT WHAT DOES HE SAY????

Well...ehmmm...
All I can say is THREELETTERSWUHU! On most websites, people seem to think the name 'Jon' is taken already (so they instead try random combinations like TheBaconSkater) so I often get it on places with even thousands on members. I still keep my name even if I can't get Jon by using my initials, JonSM.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
Years ago I was playing Persona 2(EP) on my PSX, then I saw a fusion spell called 'Maximum Tempest', automatically the Tempest caught my eye as I was looking for a good name where I will be known in the future(yeah I was 12 back then). The Maximum..not so much so I scanned my vocabulary and look at that!! Though one of the few times I didn't use this name was in ROBLOX(EliteGuardian; Banned yay) and Gaia Online(dead out of reasons). Sometimes I just add 'The' in case.
Better than 'SuperiorityX'(when the first ever time I used my e-mail ad just to play some boot-leg version of Ragnarok...which I stopped within weeks). Yeah that's within a day of getting my Yahoo ad.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
I was little(12 or so) and wanted an email. Gmail was still kinda new back then, so I made one of those, and it wanted me to decide on my email. I like pirates, so I decided one spungypirate. I even spelled it wrong. Since then I just have always used it. I like the way it sounds and have never thought to use anything else. It is mine.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
Ah well for my name.. I was always interested in stealthy or scary things as well as abstract and odd mannered modern entities that are yet, realistic. Then whenever I watched a scary movie, I thought to myself, "How cool would it to be the scary guy creeping around and knowing that you got your victim in your sights and you know what your next move is to take them out.", Kind of like a sniper or special ops soldier and therefor the word 'Spook" came to mind deriving from surprising some one, then reversed it to "Koops" and changed the first letter from common sense of pronunciation, bringing up Coops. After that I fell in love with the name and stuck onto it ever since I was 10 or so. If the name was ever taken then I added a 9753 to the end for convenience of memorizing the numbers. EDIT: Also Tomaster, Whenever I read your name, this promptly shows up in my mind.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
A long time ago, on a Jagex page not too far away...
Yolady needed a username. She liked yoyos. First she tried Yoyoman but it was taken. Sad face. Then she tried Yoman, but alas it was also taken.
Then the humble Nickname Appropriator suggested -987 as a suffix.
And she thought it was good.

Re: What's Behind the Alias?
Let's see...
Swift is my favorite nickname but that is common on the net. So when I register to other places I find either a "just as simple" name or one open to thought and personality. Plus I like names or tags that can be played with.
Core and Celestial would be the words that crossed me at the time looking for spacy games. I think I found Cortex Command on this premise while at TigSource during Build 18, but don't quote me on that. It was so perfect for the reason of being here and playing. Some portmanteau was a candidate for the way it sounds spoken, so that turned to CCS. A lovely sliding, slithery sound. The Retro Terrain Engine means more to me than just its current form so there needed to be some reference and freedom to the immersion factor. A abbreviation that bridged the forum community, gameplay, and modding was a spectacular find. Its modifiable and the only link is that it too used two C's , see? The mystery and lore, its mimetic and memetic. So many ways to mess with it.
