Its dumb don't read it.
Its about people who have mutations, who run away form people who are god-fearing who believe these mutations must be exiled from the community. SO basically they basically run away from the oppressive majority to go to another opressive majority but which they are part of.

The His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass) by Phillip Pullman is a great read.

Harry Potter. Do I need to say to more?

The Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson. Nice little take on the concept of accidental time travel, presenting a fair mix of semi-modern military and typical fantasy wank.

The Marla Mason books by T.A. Pratt are a fun series falling under the modern magic/fantasy genre.

If you're down on contemporary hard sci-fi Greg Bear is awesome and I love Forge of God/Anvil of the Stars.

Seconding/thirding/whatever Orson Scott Card, though some of his stuff is less great than others. I personally am a fan of just about all the books in the Enderverse, including the Bean spinoffs and all the sequels, but I know several people who are not.

Old school scifi is great if you're interested in it; the Foundation series by Asimov, along with the Robot novels (and their eventual tie-in) is fantastic, and I'm also a big fan of Larry Niven's Ringworld, as well as Frederik Pohl's Gateway (and the sequels to both of them).

Oh damn yes, Dune is great, though Frank Herbert has (to a certain extent) some of the same density of Asimov. Once you get through it, though, it's very very rewarding.

No one has ever read a book from a latin-american author?

I've read some poetry by Neruda, but I don't think I've ever read a whole book written by a Latin-American author. I don't think ethnicity really matters that much, though- I'm looking at their writing skills. I could care less if the author is white, black, male, female, hermaphrodite, or an intelligent AI made by IBM- if it's a good story, it's a good story.

Wow, so many posts, ok where to start...
I Have read (in order that they have been mentioned)

I have heard of the wheel of time. I also saw my cousin cry after he found out the author died 3/4 of the way through the last book :P (Now he dosn't read books other than to gather information, true story)
Hyperion and 'A Clockwork Orange' sound good, as well as Pillers of the Earth and Machine of Death.
Some of my favourite books are The Rift War Saga, Temeraire and Otherland, if that may spark any ideas (as well as all those listed above (except Artemas foul and Narnia))

Philip K. ♥♥♥♥ has some amazing short stories if you can get into them.

I'm amazed Kurt Vonnegut has yet to be mentioned.
