Re: Art Dump
I'm currently going through an obsession with the Vostroyan Firstborn faction from Warhammer 40k.

Toes from Europe wrote: Way too much noise, desaturate the noise layer and set it to "Overlay" at about 20 opacity/fill and it should give you the look I think you're going for. Heh, too late as it's saved as a jpeg and written off as "done" now but i'll try that out next time.

Re: Art Dump
So today, after being inspired by a beautiful piece of pixel art, I decided to sprite a few things. I made a treasure chest, then a brick wall tile that doesn't tile very well at all, and Lights. So most of this looks like butts. :V Some help from the pros here would be great. Edit: Also I made this orc in the style of King Arthur's gold.

Re: Art Dump
I can make a sprite sheet and you can replace knight1 or something in base if you really feel like it.

Contrary wrote: So most of this looks like butts. :V Some help from the pros here would be great. The faces and chest are a little bit butts, sure, but the wall texture is really nice. Expand on it, creat a scene to use it in. Ignore characters and complicted items for now because they'll just get in the way of (re)learning the foundations: getting your clusters clean and sorting your colour usage. Maybe make 4 tiles: bricks, bricks meet ground, ground with grass and underground texture, and see how it goes. You shouldn't have too much trouble there, but if you do, post WIPs. If you're looking to get into art more I'd juggest doing a lot of studies of objects - especially people. Your anatomy for the face isn't too bad though, it's mostly that your values are out of whack. Get a front-on photo of a face, ramp up the contrast in GIMP or PS or whatever, and then do a study off to the side of the light and dark areas, with two colours only, or a marker if you're using paper. That'll give you a better idea of how to shade the volumes than I think you have at this point.

Re: Art Dump
Thanks Geti. I realized that I'll never reach any level of competence with spriting unless I just force myself to go out there and sprite random stuff.
That tileset stuff is a good idea I'll try that.
