Why buy a car when you can just steal it?

I know the comparison is preposterous, but the principle in it's deep core is the same.

I wouldn't do either, but unlike car theft software piracy is much easier and widespread and even in some cases people think they can find explanations that make it morally right.
The option is there, there is no threat of any consequences, no matter if the game is made by a monster company or a struggling indie developer people are still going to steal it. People aren't even slightly embarassed to admit that they have stolen music or video games on the internet.

It shouldn't come as a suprise is what I'm saying.
