> You casually stroll past the blue-cloaked man and keep on walking until your team gets close to the Northern gate.

A man wearing a red cloak is talking to someone inside a building through an open door:

"Looks like you violated policy 46 again."
"Again? I thought I was lyin' low enough. Ah well. Fine's 500 gold, right?"
"Yeah, same as -"

2 men wearing black cloaks with golden trimming walk past the red cloaked man, and the red one suddenly grabs the man in the building and throws him to the ground outside.

"WHAT'S THAT? YOU BACK-TALKIN' ME, CITIZEN? LET'S SEE HOW YOU LIKE A FEW BROKEN RIBS STICKIN' OUT OF YOUR CHEST TONGIHT!"

The red mage starts kicking the ground near the man's chest, and the man is screaming as if he's being hit. The black mages walk a bit closer and speak -

"Everything under control, inspector?"
"'Course, sir! I'm actually holdin' back, ya know. If I beat these guys any harder, the Northside population'll drop faster than ducks durin' huntin' season."
"Very well then. Keep up the good work."

The black mages walk off until they're out of sight, and then the red mage crouchs to the man on the ground.

"Alright, they're gone."

The man on the ground gets up, looking perfectly fine for someone who looks like they just got beaten.

"'ducks durin' huntin' season' huh? Like you ever went hunting! Anyways, here's 500."
"Mhm. Try not to get caught next time, will ya?"
"Yeah, yeah."

The man goes back into the building as the red mage stuffs the gold coins into a leather pouch. He stops in front of your party and looks right at you.

"Oh hey, it's you. What're you doin' 'round there parts?"

You recognize him from his scent as the mage you met in the tavern back at Mead town.

"Wow, does he like to talk."

The white mage walks up from behind, joining you once again.

"What'd I miss?"

You also happen to notice that the white and black mage in your company bear the same emblem as the red mage and the two black mages that passed by:

The healer helps you off of the horse and takes a look at your wrapped bandages.

"Hold still, now."

He raises his hands to your chest and a white glow surrounds them. Your wound burns, then tingles, and then the light fades. The healer removes your bandages, and you see that your chest is fully healed.

"All done!"

The man takes out a book and starts scribbling notes down before walking off.

The man in the black gi you saw earlier responds -

"Yeah. There's a reason why she's been champion for so long."

You watch the next match, between Dan Lee and Robert Bunsen. The Robert dude seems to make use of fire as a weapon, manipulating it in seemingly impossible ways and easily defeating the sword-wielding Dan.

"NEXT BATTLE: JAKE ROSENVAL VERSUS ADAM KING!"

"Looks like I'm up."

The two competitors descend the stairs and face each other on the arena floor.

"REEEAAADY? BEGIN!"

Adam, with steel greaves and gauntlets, rush Jake with a flurry of martial arts, who dodges or blocks all of the attacks with his katana.

After a quick parry of a kick, Jake lashes out with his katana, and a torrent of lightning surrounds his sword. The weapon strikes one of Adam's gauntlets, and streams of electricity cover his body and throws him to the ground.

With King on the ground convulsing, the announcer decides that the match is over.

"LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A WINNER! JAKE ROSENVAL!"

Jake walks calmly back to the box-seat as white mages check to make sure Adam isn't dead or dying.

"NEXT ROUND: MICHAEL FARADAY VERSUS FREDERICK PISANO!"

This match goes fast, though not as fast as the first one. Michael battles mostly with lightning strikes shooting from his hands, while Frederick is your average swordsmen holding a metal sword.

"WINNER: MICHAEL FARADAY! NEXT ROUND: GORF HARKELSAN VERSUS THE CRUSHER!"

Looks like you're up.

Heading out, you walk around until you locate a blacksmithery. Inside, the sound of metal striking metal rings off of the stone walls and the large smith is beating a piece of metal with a hammer over an anvil.

"Welcome! How may I help you?"

The man doen't seem startled or concerned by your appearance.

Going past that, you walk through vibrant green plains till you hit a large collection of small stone buildings, surrounding a large one. There are several men scurrying about and oxen-driven carts haul ore that has been dug up.

Your opponet stands at the opposite gate: A massive man with broad shoulders and bulging muscles. In his hands is a mean-looking war hammer, and a shortsword in a sheath on his hip.

You hand over the greaves and the smith starts heating and banging them together with his hammer. After a bit of work, he polishes them and holds your new armor for you to see:

The steel greaves have been merged into a single gauntlet that covers your entire arm without impeding movement.

"Whaddya think?"
