Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
Did you not click my spoiler? MY ♥♥♥♥ SAID THE ANSWER IS 9. DO NOT CHALLENGE THE TI-89.
Also, Duh is a pony so the answer 5 is less acceptable than 9 but more so than 1.

My TI n-spire said the answer was 1, so HOP OFF.

Google says it's 9, and Google is right.

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
Come on it's nine.
After you figure out what's in the parenthesis, it becomes simple multiplication/division from left to right, NOT distribution. 6(6) is not distribution. Even if it is, I've never heard of distribution being part of P in PEMDAS. Ever.
Code:
10 / 2(5) = 25 10 / (2(5)) = 1
<3

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
Mathematically Speaking most people would first go ahead and add the numbers inside the brackets, then move on to multiplication/Division. I come to the conclusion that the answer is in fact:
Code:
6/2(1+2)
6 -- 2(3)
6/6
= 1

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
If you answered one you're an idiot 6 / 2 (3) = 6 / 2 * 3 Since when do you start multiplication/division from the right?

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
The answer is dependant on whether or not you consider operations on parentheses as higher priority than multiplicative operations. Computers will return either based on either their programming or their programming language.

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
Its 1, I mean, c'mon, it's order of operations, and 1 comes before 9, so yeah.

In Canada the acronym BEDMAS is common. It stands for Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
I was taught BODMAS myself, but still same thing applies. You could argue that because it's taught in Canada, the whole ♥♥♥♥ thing is wrong and the answer is in fact 1, HOWEVER:
Code:
6÷2(1+2) 6÷2(3) (6÷2)x3 3x3 9
Seemples.

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
In Finland we're taught that the multiplications and divisions are calculated at the same time, from left to right. Therefore, my answer is nine.

Re: Watchu know about Order of Operations?
This is the only way I'm able to see it:
Code:
6/2*(1+2) 6/2*(3) 3*(3) 9
