The possibilities... ohhh.... the possibilites... I can't even think in such a large number. I can only think in actual laser vision, something I've wanted to do from a long ago.

Do you figure it'd still be one-shot though? I figure once the core goes critical once it can't really do it again. It would generally still be one-shot unless your reflectors are good enough to survive a close-range nuclear detonation. The concept would allow you to choose and base it on the reflector quality, basically.

Re: DarkStorm Military Technologies -- Updated 12/20/09
Haha! Gonna chime in again with some more awesome. Go look up the 'Demon Core'. It was a 6.2kg subcritical sphere of plutonium that killed two people in separate reflector incidents. In the second incident it was completely enclosed for less than a second - during which it let out a bright flash of blue light and heat (it's theorized this is how we perceive neutrino releases) and gave the scientist performing the experiment an insanely fatal radiation dose. He died nine days later, and another scientist who was watching over his shoulder ended up with all kinds of horrible complications on his face and died of a radiation-induced heart attack 25 years later. The core was later used in a nuclear bomb and strangely was noticeably more powerful than other bombs with cores of a similar size. Evil little thing. Anyway, you could probably double the size of the core to 12kg and keep it at a subcritical density and it'd be portable by an Oni. You could probably 'charge' the core to a level that it would instantly kill an organic target without destroying the weapon or the core, since you're just releasing a big burst of neutrons. Letting the core stay critical for any significant period of time would quickly start generating huge amounts of energy, which would require something heftier than beryllium (which is really good at reflecting neutrons but not much else) to contain, but possibly still within the realms of DS technology. Actually you'd need these unobtanium reflectors even for the neutron laser, since building up that charge also releases nasty amounts of ionising radiation and other harmful radiation waves (which is what killed those scientists in the first place), and if you can contain those your neutron laser is just all the more powerful. So with these theoretical reflectors and a core that's allowed to critically melt down, you'd have something more akin to a slow-motion nuclear bomb-laser. If you could contain the energy and release it as a laser, the target matter would vaporise instantly in a very dramatic explosion (like the one I posted earlier ), and the weapon would be ruined as it'd be filled with molten nuclear slag. Overcharge the weapon and it's containment would be compromised, and the energy would be released somewhere in the vicinity of the operator. In short, it's a stupidly powerful weapon that's so irresponsibly dangerous it's a wonder no human has tried building one yet. And with that in mind it has CC written all over it.

STOP BEING SO AWESOME.
I usually only have one weapon I want out of any pack, but I want all the weapons you've suggested! GAAAH!

The Gunslinger wrote: In short, it's a stupidly powerful weapon that's so irresponsibly dangerous it's a wonder no human has tried building one yet. And with that in mind it has CC written all over it. The great thing about the CC setting is the whole "lifeless and brainless clone/robot army" aspect. Irresponsibly dangerous weapons would likely be much more common in a warzone that features no actual living creatures. Besides ones buried deep underground, encases in walls that I'm certain are designed to casually withstand all the bull♥♥♥♥ going on topside. So yeah, chargeable neutron laser is a go. People have asked in the past when I'm going to make a giant robot. Oni don't need no stinkin' giant robot.

Hey Darlos, you should make a Zero G combat unit. That'd be fun

And you should make lua-accessible scene variables that tell me both the amount of gravity as well as whether or not the scene has air in it, since technically most of my current flying things probably shouldn't even be flying in certain environments, but I currently have no way to "test" the environment to make them behave properly.

We already effectively have a zero-g combat unit. The Yuurei, I think it's called.

No. Yuurei has NO thrusters, so it would be basically unable to maneuver in zero-g. A zero g unit would probably be some sort of flight drone, or a character with an improved jetpack and/or built in grappling hook.

Hence why I was saying I need some way to tell whether or not there is an atmosphere in a scene. Otherwise Insert is actually right: the Yuurei can work anyway, since there's no way to tell if it should be able to or not.

Re: DarkStorm Military Technologies -- Updated 12/20/09
so i've always been a fan of darlos's stuff but i kinda miss the old darkstorm weapons (not the darkklones, this same version just before he cut a bunch of stuff)
does anyone have the version of the mod before he made the cuts (like with the mortar and im psure there was a shotgun)? this mod desperately needs a shield and a shotty.
