Re: Invisible Children
Well the word 'non-profit' suggests they do not make a profit from any donation or sale. Am I wrong?

Re: Invisible Children
The non-profit bit usually just states that the employees them-selfs don't gain any money. That may, or may not be the case.

Re: Invisible Children
Excuse me, but I haven't commented on any organization. All I've stated are my thoughts on the general matter.

Re: Invisible Children
Well since this is a thread about a certain organization I assumed that you meant this one. This only makes sense, right?

Not really, it just means you assumed something.

Re: Invisible Children
So my line of logic is flawed? I make a thread about a certain organization and what they do > You post on/about it, presumably about the point of the thread. Apparently your's is something like this? Darkdoom makes a thread about a certain organization and what they do > I do not like/believe in charity > I post about charity in general Please note that the one from your perspective is in, well your perspective. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Invisible Children
That's a really confusing way of making your point. It doesn't really matter anyway, FoiL has clarified his position.

They look like a bunch of hipsters. Why would I pay for hipsters to do ANYTHING?

Oh well. Either way, this thread wasn't made to start a debate. it was made to spread the word.

Re: Invisible Children
It seems like on these issues there are either people bogged down in self righteousness or people who automatically disregard an issue because they care more about not being manipulated by whatever guilt message is being given than the actual problems, because they have stereotyped all forms of advocacy or "awareness campaigning" as something that only foolish emotional types are susceptible to. A realistic approach to have is to allow the emotional people to continue with harmless advocacy, and realize that a more "realistic" person can also help, rather than just standing and insulting the emotional people, by donating time or money to the organization. This specific orginization spoke at my school. and regardless of my desire to label it as cliche and disregard it, I found out with listening that it is actually very effective in policy. Not only do they raise millions of dollars which directly support their issue, but they have actually created a bill which was recently accepted by congress.

Re: Invisible Children
Protip: You can get the government to say they'll help out with anything if they think enough people are listening. Doesn't mean they will. I.E. Rwanda.
Now, you can 'help', be it by traveling there and building houses if they need them, simultaneously doing unpaid labour instead of actual citizens of that country being paid to do it, or donating money, which falls into approximately every single ♥♥♥♥ person's wallet that isn't who you intended to help before it gets to them.
There really isn't much people or persons can do to aid a war-torn foreign nation. Go talk up a pharmaceutical company and try and convince them to lower the insane profits they make off HIV medication if you're so desperate to help Africa.

Re: Invisible Children
I'm a little late, but yes, I've heard of something called compassion. In fact, I've got it. Sadly, I've only got it for people close to me, emotionally or physically. While the earthquake in Japan is terrible, as is a war-torn nation, I've already said there's nothing I could about it, short of going over there, which I'm unable to do. So instead of feeling sad and depressed about people dying, I instead choose not care about it. If a devastating earthquake hit Georgia, but didn't affect me, I'd be doing all I could to help out victims, since they're both physically close, and I might actually know some of them.
Additionally, please don't put words in my mouth. I never said it doesn't matter. I just said I find it hard to care about it.
Lastly, it seems to me like you're becoming a bit aggressive in your defense of these organizations. You're not really putting forward good arguments, and I'm not sure if English is your first language, but you'll probably get a bit more respect/attention if you learn to type full sentences.
