So basically, just because you do not think it will ever affect you, it does not matter.
Do you care about what is happening in Japan? As in to the people (IE: death, pain, cancer in the future, etc). Nuclear problems, radiation, it may never really affect you... but you can never really know if it will or not. Granted this analogy is a little extreme because radiation CAN directly affect you, but it is the same premise...

Sell your computer and game consoles, stop buying new stuff, save all of your pennies and voila, you can help with your own money. Will you do it? Of course not.

This is the mentality of pretty much everyone. Sure, you may be disgusted by that, but when you grow up your own problems will outweigh problems, that in Tomaster's well chosen words are "halfway across the globe that will never directly affect me".

Japan's disaster falls into this same category, whether you see it as so or not. The truth is that none of other peoples problems will affect you directly, mainly problems that happen in another continent.

Either way, it isn't a matter of "will it affect me" it is a matter of "do I care"...
obviously very few people care about other human beings. I am not trying to be hypocritical, and you are right. I won't do that. But a few bucks, even if only a little actually goes to the people in need, can help.

So why not?

Because they will not reach the people in most need. All they'll do is ferment more warmongering.

So doing the Schools for Schools program (schools raised money to build schools in Uganda and surrounding area), built barracks and training grounds for more child soldiers?

Or just ending up in some state official's pocket, who knows.

Just throwing this out there:
I work (for free) for a charity.
98%+ of what we take in goes to kids in Africa.
We take no government assistance.
We tolerate no waste.

Please don't assume that all charities are ♥♥♥♥.

Can I ask what charity you work for?

You may be a part of the 5-10% that do contribute to the better of the people and only the people, but the rest of those supposed charities have left a stigma too large to be ignored.

Cause there is gain from faking this.

It is like the conspiracy theory that the Holocaust was a hoax.
There is no reason to fake such a thing.
There is no reason to fake helping kids.

The people who fake charities are just plain evil.

But if they are truly a nonprofit organization then they would not do that.
