 Re: Art Dump
Whoa hold on who's saying it's a human in there? For all you know, it could be a snail.

 Re: Art Dump
Indeed it could, but the brain usually anthropomorphises humanoid figures regardless of their internal makeup.

 Re: Art Dump
Well skin tight armor is cliche as hell if you ask me, like girls in action movies wearing tight skimpy suits.

 Re: Art Dump
Man so I just wrote a whole paragraph on spacesuits and then I realized
it doesn't matter at all
skintight vs bulky spacesuit is a design choice, there's really no super-significant pros and cons. skintight suits generally give you more mobility, but larger suits are better for insulation, etc

 Re: Art Dump
I guess the thing with that suit is not necessarily the fact that it is bulky, but how thin the legs look compared to the waist and hips, making it seem fatter than it actually is.
Also, yeah, I guess it's all up to the NASA/Klingon/Soviet Russia Space Program engineers to find out which suit better fits each situation. But let's not forget that a suit doesn't need to be either super-bulky or see-through skintight. Maybe the spacesuit of the future is something closer to normal clothing than we imagine?

 Re: Art Dump
Preference-wise, I like bulky, armored suits better (that is, suits that are bulky due to a profusion of armor). They seem durable, and more fitting for the perils of outer space. Wearing some spandex doesn't fit my view of outer space. Again, all opinions.

 Re: Art Dump
Realistically, how is a skin tight suit supposed to stop very fast space debris from ripping you a new one? Even if it did, the impact would hurt like nothing you've ever felt.

 Re: Art Dump
Exactly. Granted, an armored suit would be pitted and such from minuscule particles and such, but it would be thick enough to take the damage without having it's functions hindered, or even depleted. Also, what's to stop a plasma bolt from puncturing a hole in thin polyvinyl-Kevlar material?

 Re: Art Dump
Why would plasma be involved? If you're just fixing something on the outside of your ship you mightn't need a full suit of armour.
I'm not sure how such a suit would deal with microscopic debris but I suppose some energy shielding could be in order.
Don't get me wrong, I'm leaning more towards the powered armour side of things when it comes to spacewalking but don't just be dismissive because you think something is silly.

Realistically, how is a hardsuit supposed to stop very fast space debris from ripping you a new one? That's what a paint chip did to the front window of the space shuttle challenger. A paint chip one fifth of one millimeter wide. EDIT: Here's an unknown object's hit against one of Endeavor's radiator panels (the large cargo bay doors) Hardsuit or softsuit, your only protection against the kinetic energy of an orbiting object going opposite you is luck.

Whipple shields work well against smaller objects going at incredible speeds. But if I recall correctly it is on micrometeor scale

All this talk of spacesuit implementations reminded me of the RTS/FPS hybrid Battlezone. So I wanted to make a grungy remake of it's logo. Over 9000 hours in Serif DrawPlus and Photoplus.

 Re: Art Dump
I have a question that will make me sound unquestionably retarded, but heck with it. What's the armor on a NASA space shuttle? I know they get damaged, but they withstand a lot of crap. When I think of heavy armor, I think of Starcraft armor. Geti, I was just saying plasma bolts as an example, since advanced space travel would also accompany advanced weapons. I apologize.
