I'll be honest with ya, the design is confusing, and the shading is pretty iffy.
Still, not too shabby. Keep at it bro.

The design is sort of stereotypical, however.

Everywhere.
Literally every part that is shaded is pillow shaded.
This is because you have shaded it with the light source directly in front of the man rather than someone else (IE, top right).
Try making the light patches top right and the dark bottom left instead of putting the light in the middle and the dark on the outside.

Ahh ok that makes more sense to me.

I made an edit that I think describes the intended form a lot better, but do take note that I don't know what the intended form is, I've had to interpret from your words and the pixels.

It seemed you were using a lot of non-pixel art techniques as well, soft brushes and the like, because there were a lot of colours that were completely unnecessary.

Here's what I saw in your piece, for clarification:

I love the lead one. Reflection on gold is a bit weird, IMHO, but I recognize the difficulty there.

That's just great. It tells a lot in those 786432 pixels. It's like Cortana and the Master Chief, or Rogue Trooper and his biochip buddies. Would make a great splash screen for "survive for x minutes/waves" type of CC missions.
