Re: Sprite Help Thread
Naxx, the problem with your shading is that it makes everything appear circular towards the viewer and it's no clear lightsource. Just sayin. Other than that the shape you made it into is nice.

Lizard wrote: appear circular towards the viewer Well, I believe that's true, after re-watching it I notice, I made it pretty circular... Lizard wrote: it's no clear lightsource. Explain this better, I believe the light-source in that sprite its up-right of the rifle. Anyway this is half true, I sacrifice the lighting in the gun to give more contrast and "explain" the details of the gun better, it happened me into past...

Re: Sprite Help Thread
The thing is, with something like a gun, it's flat, aswell as having light bounced onto it from a lot of different directions. if you hold a light up against a wall, the light bounces off and lights up other walls than just the one you point it at. Oh and, contrast is nice, but it's created by light colors hitting dark colors, not gradients. A 'sharp' looking gun is always more readable than a 'soft' looking one. Readability should be concern number one. Too much contrast between highlights and shadows cause confusion to the eyes, making them unable to focus upon a point. It's not perfect but I didn't spend that a long time on it. Btw Cmdr 5ir, next time you take something from the sprite dump and post it in this thread, it'd be nice if yousaid where you got it from. Even if it's free of charge doesn't mean you should claim that you made it.

Lizard, you are just amazing. That's like a million times more awesome than the starting sprite or NaXx's sprite.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
ok i am actually having trouble with these guns. The bottom gun i can't really figure out what i want to do with the less-white spot, and the top gun is just giving me general shading troubles.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
here is another stage of it's creation: @Naxete, i liked yours, but i needed to make a few changes. @Lizard, I also liked yours, but i am trying to go for a futuristic, yet somewhat worn down, look.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Well then you could start by not basing it on the sprite of a futuristic sniper by Coops.

Urch@: If it's not against your style, you could make that "less white spot" a glass bulb that glows when you shoot the gun, most of the time it compensates for blank areas.

Too much outline in some areas, not enough in others.

Not to mention the size.
Scale them down a bit.
