Post Faction Clarification
Hello yellow!

I've had my eye on this game for awhile. Since like, 2006 or something maybe. Back when dropship explosions were super powerful and you could fly with jetpacks. Dunno when that was. Anyway.

I am a little confused on this whole faction stuff. I'll post the stuff I know and maybe someone could help a dude out?

1. There will be two kinds of factions. The first kind will be allowed in versus mode or whatever, and the second kind is used in story mode only. Something like that.

2. These are the factions so far.
-Normal factions -Coalition. The military guys. Nothing confusing about these guys.
-Techion, formerly known as the "Whitebots," because uh, they are white
robots, I guess. I know who these guys are.
-Imperatus. Okay, this is where my heads starts falling off. From what I've
read, these are to be the group that Robot 1 and Robot 2 are in? I
actually thought that the "Browncoats" were to be the Imperatus, but
nope. Guess not. I assumed the Browncoat dudes would be the
Imperatus from reading something about brute force and power. So where are the guys called Browncoats going? Are they just being moved to the Coalition or something?

-Story Factions. I don't really care too much about story guys, but here we
go.
-Green Robot. Used in the Tutorial mission.
-Dummy.
-Uzril or something like that.
-Ronin.
-Mu-Something. Bad dudes in the story.

3. What role are the three main factions to fulfill? I mean like, okay. The
Coalition are clearly the balance guys. Kinda like Terran in Starcraft. So are
the Imperatus to be the low cost, low quality faction and the Techion the
high-cost, high-quality group? And that's beside the fact that I don't even
know what happened to the Browncoat guys.

Anyway, thanks yellow. And if this is against the forum law, like wrong room or whatever, feel free to manhandle me.

The ronin and the browncoats are both the results of content-dev side-projects. The browncoats are much less finished, but are meant to be the equivalent of walking tanks.

They are the stand in 'exterminator', 'indomitable', 'you gunna get raped' faction.

Post Re: Faction Clarification
Well, I always got that the Browncoats are supposed to be powerful. Like, be able to take a lot of damage and stuff. But some details on the Imperatus group tell me that they are the "power" group.

So, uh, are the Browndudes to be a main faction? Like, playable in skirmish or whatever?

From what I've read on Promster's blog the Ronin, Dummies, Mu, etc. are story only factions. Is that to be for the Browncoats as well? Or are they a main group along the Coalition, Techion, and Imperatus? So. Are the Browncoats a main faction or story only/minor? (I put story and minor together because that is what I have read. Well, besides the Dummies. Guess it wouldn't be too hard to change their status from major to minor.)

And now that I think on it, if the Browncoats are to be a main faction, then it might look more like this-

Coalition- Balance
Techion- Speed/Versatility?
Imperatus- Power/Brute force, etc.
Browncoats- Good in everything, but very costly.

That would make sense I guess. Of course, I wouldn't know. Just assuming here. I don't even know anymore.

Did you not hear?

Ronin & Browncoats are both results of content dev side projects, not official storyline.

I have also long thought and discussd the faction prediciment but finaly came to the conclution that what ever wil come out of the meta game/campain wil determine the base story, what the hel cc is all about besides gold, or mabe why its all about gold or any othr available recource apart from the expandng empires. After the styl and story idea is found, the motive for all the commotion. Rols wil have to be made and then filled. Then as the factions find themselves in a meaningful position they wil begin to mold into an identity where from real, fav faction poles, can be set up that wil result in a much more ballanced and meaningful vote tally. I believe ,if i may say so,that the free trade was pretty much forgotten of. Now we want each faction to leave another with enough story space, but i thought that free trade was more of a big brother watching thing, where everyone on the planet mre or less needs to play by their ruls or else, where the ronin are utterly left in the dark to fend for them selves and rise against higher powers, coalition, technicon and imperitus representatives of their own seperate galactic giants, battling one anothr in a fierce competition. The Mu- um aliens a real threat to all, with hero campaign run by or semi run by the woman and her undead, or awsum long forgoten space marines or something. Wow if each faction has a complete rich campain blendng into the main story line, i wouldnt be suprisd one day if it ends up on the shelf of a pc game retailer

Eh, last time I knew, it was a story about the planet's moon attacking you for being a douche, and destroying the planet for its resources.

Post Re: Faction Clarification
Now, I just read this two times, and this is the gist that I am getting: FreeTrade obviously owns the TradeStars, and are strictly business. They leave combat to hired factions. The Coalition are one of these hired factions, along with Techion. Techion will be the luxurious, expensive and high-quality faction, using the new and exotic weaponry. They will be the primary force that FreeTrade hires. On the contrary, the Imperatus are going to be the kind of grubby, out-of-the-ghetto factions that want to make some serious cash, along with a name for themselves in the OSA. The green dummies will be reserved for the tutorial, replacing the current dummies. The generic orange dummies seem very developed as an idea overall, and will be used as a faction that interjects here and there into the campaign itself. The Ronin are spoken of as more of the bad guys, not the helpless, underdeveloped retards everyone cracks them up to be. I think they will cause trouble for the player during the campaign. Uzira will be a helping hand to the player in the story, sort of like the Marauders in Red Faction: Guerilla once the Red Faction makes peace with them. The Mu-ilaak will be the main antagonists of the campaign, and will be residing on the moon of Midas. Though they will be powerful, all of the factions will eventually team up on them in one final, epic battle.

I think that pretty much covers everything. Hope that helps.

Midas isn't the planets name. Midas is the name of the Tradestar orbiting the planet.

Oh, haha, perhaps my "insightful" post was far from what I cracked it up to be. Come to think of it, I think I read about that somewhere on the forums. Anyways, my bad. The Mu-ilaak will be based on the moon of [insert name of mysterious new planet here].

Good Job Jackal, I think that pretty much coveres it. May indeed prove to be an exciting campaign. provided that you can obviously play the story from multiple factions perspectives.

Yes, the aspect of multiple viewpoints for campaign is definitely something to look forward to. Now let's just hope a campaign ever gets made, or a new build.

This whole thread implies that there is any kind of cohesion with what little we have to call a plot. Storytelling is not exactly Data's wheelhouse.

Who knows? He hasn't exactly done much of it yet.

Hopefully that'll change in the near future, however.
