Declare.

We'll see how long my little guys last...

Looks like it's just the one guy.

Image
A green flare drops from the sky, heralding the arrival of Sir Reginald Peters II, explorer extraordinaire! He carries a partially blunt machete and his trusty rucksack, as he floats to earth on a red balloon from the heavens. A crate of his supplies descends alongside him.

Sir Peters brandishes his machete at the hostile surrounds.

A small Omni-Copter is released, with the apparently-tiny operator prepping to seal off the entrance!

The scatterpedes build an eggsack and a few sand blocks, the Gaurdians sense the presense of a mamalian creature above them.

It would make sense to delete the previous "Declare" post, guys. It keeps it tidy and doesn't toe an important line.

Declare.

May as well get something set up, no?

Sweet, I suppose if someone posts after the declare I'll just report the old post.

Image
Reginald's crate and flare hit the dirt moments before he touches down!
Image
Sir Peters lands as the dust thrown up by his belongings diffuses into the air. His flare smoulders, feet away.
Image
Dropping his pack and machete immediately, our Hero starts unpacking his crate!

Image
However, what's inside will have to wait till next time...

Whew, got to do some base tiles/objects now I suppose, but it's late here so I'll free it up.
We really should add some texture to the map :/

The builder keeps on building more space for the fortress, they reorganize a bit inside.
The mage has finished the foxhole and a young fox is born!
One of the fox children wants to become a knight when he grows up. Another one wants to become a chef.

No offence guys, but I am placing my bet on Geti for winning this.

Perhaps we can set up a betting racket?

Nah, I think that would get me in ♥♥♥♥.

DEEP ♥♥♥♥, cuz, you know, it's not about winning.
If you're playing this to win I'm going to ban you from playing it.
You play it to have fun.

Also geti, there's no texture because playing PW with textures gets very annoying over time, trust me I've tried it.

Err what?
I never said that I was even playing this at all, I simply said that I think Geti is going to win. Even if it is for fun, its got to end sometime or another, otherwise it just gets boring.

Engineer First Class Jares puts the finishing touches on the improvised defensive turret (cannibalized from the APC which no longer required it.)

Three other troopers exit the base and declare the immediate area secure, however, a man is spotted not particularly far away on the middle island.
"Sir, permission to fire?"
"Negative, Private." replied the Marine Lieutenant, entering the base only now. "Wait to confirm their intentions beforehand. We're not here to butcher our own people."
"I'm picking up other signatures on the far island, sir. Judging by the coordinates, they seem to be the ones we were sent here to investigate. A small stone construction, with some sort of rodent inside."
"How peculiar... we'll check it out when we come to it... the Sergeant is telling me on another frequency that he's picked up numerous other targets on his scans and that we better identify them quickly; he says they came out of thin air."

Mmn, Fair enough I suppose but some subtle rock texture near the surface and some detailing on the subterranean rocks could just spice up the field a little without getting distracting...

I think it'd make the areas without construction around them feel a little more natural, but I suppose it could be a pretty heavy time investment.

Regardless: Lizard what's the deal with doing damage, do you fire the projectile and the person on the receiving end animate the damage, or what? It seems unfair if you get to kill someone's guy in one turn but then again if someone comes into close proximity it'd suck not to be able to slash at them.

As flattering as that is, Lizard's a PW veteran.

If we were to have some serious competition I'm sure he'd be able pull some sort of demon fox-summon or other massive contraption out of his belt if he needed to, and I'm far too slow at pixelling to be able to keep up (especially on my laptop), so he'd probably kick my arse.

...That and I haven't pulled out a ranged weapon for him yet, bar throwing his machete, so any of the guys with guns could likely tear me apart at any given point in time without me being able to retaliate.

Geti, just go with the flow. If you fire at enemies, then have the bullets be halfway to the enemy. Either that player will take care of it, or if they don't, then do it yourself and be reasonable. Kill some, damage some, have some miss. It's really quite the freeform art style.

Mercifully, the Glass Flower realizes that its old method of crystallization was not only inefficient, but also ugly as hell. It rectifies this.

Is it getting resized or something? The image looks really blurry unless I right click > view which something of a shame.

But yeah, while there's nothing stopping people adding textures they tend to just get accidentally rubbed out and then not put back in and this often looks worse than just having no texture at all. People insist even now on drawing grass into maps, even though as soon as one unit walk over it, every blade behind him will vanish forever ;)
It's really just a matter of convenience, people could put more effort in probably but you need to strike a balance somewhere. Adding little different coloured pixels in doesn't really improve the map enough to make it worth it, in the opinion of most people.

Also I think you're overreacting a little on the "NO WINNING" thing Lizzrd, while it is something I used to say all the time I think you might not exactly have understood.
While your aim should be to be amusing to read and look at rather than to win the game, it's almost impossible to do this without trying to win the game because there are very few ways to make strong characters in war stories who don't want to win the battle :V
Every story has to end and someone would have to win. As long as you keep in mind that you have an audience, there's no reason not to pursue that goal.

Although at the same time I think you might have the opposite idea Geti, Lizzrd wouldn't pull a random giant magic fox out of his ass (or at least I hope he wouldn't!) and decimate your troops because that would be anticlimatic and boring to read, or at least for everyone who's not Lizzrd ;)
This is why it's also OK to kill enemy soldiers on your turn, and more importantly to let some of your own troops get killed or even kill them yourself. People need to die if you want drama!
