CC isn't vaporware because it's finished right now. I can and am playing it. It may not have all the stuff Data wants to eventually be in it, but be honest. If someone said they where making "soldat with amazing destruction physics and easy modability", that's more than a viable game. Maybe it's not perfect, with lackluster AI and no online play, but it's still a fully-fleshed game in it's own right, and has been for a while. I can definitely see Data wanting to have at least one of the two of those before he considers it properly done, but it's not like you can say "hey I payed money a while ago, and there's still nothing remotely playable". For that matter, I don't think you can call anything with an open beta vaporware, because if I can buy it and I can play it... what more do you want as proof it can sell?

DNF is/was/may still be vaporware, because all you get are promises that it will work at some point. I'd personally say there's been several games of the same title that have all so far turned out to be vaporware, because do you really think it's actually been continuously developed for all this time? This new one could just as easily have been called "Duke Nuckem: some title".

CC is not a fully-fleshed game. Period.

For me CC is already a completed game. But it is a game in a completely new category, CC is a living game it is constantly changing, evolving, moving, LIVING. CC is a mixture of official releases an community releases, think of CC as something like Linux/Ubuntu or as an open source software, we get the stuff from the official but we give some meat to that stuff so we end up having a living game that will never cease expanding or growing or changing, everlasting challenges or new thing to try.

In my opinion CC is far far done already, we are just not yet used to this kind of new game type.

For one I have to disagree. Cortex is far from done, it is so bug ridden and a performance hog. Not to mention there are many issues with the official content.

Secondly, if you're going to call it a living thing, then it can't ever be "done", and vice versa.

I'm not trying to dampen your spirits but your arguments seemed rather flimsy.
I agree overall, Cortex is a great game, but it's quite far from finished in my opinion.

Now you're just being an insufferable brown-noser. Knock it off. CC is incomplete. It's awesome, but incomplete. It's basically a beta. Data HIMSELF has said he's not done with it yet, FFS. It's like a bitchin' sports car that's still in need of doors, headlamps, leather bucket seats and some fine-tuning on the engine and transmission.

Dude, "early development build" translates to either alpha or beta, so yeah.

Maybe we should just all state what we mean with "finnished" before stating whether we think it describes CC? If you by a "finnished game" simply mean a game you can play and enjoy vanilla, then definitely so. If you instead mean a game who's developer and community think there aren't any major problems that need to be fixed, then no, just as definitely.

Regardless of which, Cortex Command isn't vapourware, just as everyone else has stated.

While we do have Cortex players and modders from Finland, I would hardly call it Finnished.

On a more serious note, to me CC is closer to a sandbox tool-kit than an actual game. The only thing preventing it from having that label is the closed nature of the hardcoded bits. While I'm sure it'll be finished one day, I don't believe it will ever be something on the scale of other Indie Games that can make it to a retail box, which is sort of tragic because I love CC's style, game-play and especially the art direction.

If it was a grander scale, more frequently updated project (assuming neither of those would take away from CC's charm) it would probably be a game I play much more than I do. Here's to hoping. :)
