Post Some feedback!
Okay, I'm a HBII guy, I love cortex command, I already said this in my last thread, but the game is excellent. I'm utterly addicted, I need therapy. Maybe I'll look into that, for now I'm really enjoying WEEGEE'S missions that he has updated for B24. They are superb, so superb in fact that I feel your game would greatly benefit from adding them into vanilla. Strip out the buggy missions, bring in the stuff that works, people love your game, profit! Just slip Weegee a hundreds dollars or something for his efforts. I'm serious!

I extensively tested the game in 4 player mode with 4 people on a 52 inch flatscreen and the experience was mostly stellar. One pretty big issue was the incompatibly with the gamepads I bought, for some reason they have some serious issues when trying to access the diagonal options on the radial menu. We figured out some Konami like code that enabled us to use the oh so holy "GO TO AI".
Here is a link to the gamepad.

Other D-pad Controller Bugs
  • Crouch is not bindable
  • Up and down didn't work in the menus to move the controller, but they did work in game.
  • Even when configuring the 8 directional dpad as an analog stick, I was not able to access the "halved" options on the radial menu.
  • With this particular controller, diagonals are not accessible on the radial menu.

Having played the game 4 player with 8 different ACTUAL new players to cortex command, I noticed new players were particularly frustrated with several features of the game. I think if you eliminated some of these issues, you player base would widen considerably, and I'm not just talking about raging highschool nerds, I'm talking people of actual intelligence and talent and who could contribute to the community via mod making or otherwise.

Game Issues:
  • Team actors doing damage to other team actors just simply by trying to get by them, "walking past" team actors would be idea.
  • Or you should not be able to knock a weapon out of a team actors hands, or damage them with your jetpack.
  • The ability to destroy and knock weapons out of an actors hand is far too touchy, it should be harder, more novel.. ie.. lucky.
  • I had some terrible rage issues managing the medic droid, every single time I've bought it I've managed to kill it with my own guys.
  • "No arms" is terribly frustrating and should be harder to achieve, or some sort of reliable limb regenerators should be available.
  • The gold digging AI does not work, looks really bad to new players.
  • Upon readying in four player mode actors should pick up the nearest weapons and then sit there, not try and go to the otherside of the map.
  • There should be another AI mode called maintain stance where the actor tries to maintain a certain configuration as well as possible, recoil and ducking cause actors to move in some really undesirable places in sentry mode.

Balance Issues:
  • Diggers are ridiculous and the only weapon you need, they probably shouldn't do damage to actors.
  • Robot 2 is ridiculous and the only actor you need, needs to have some disadvantages..
  • Browncoats should probably be total badasses
  • Heavy diggers should cost substantially more, they chew through steel like it's nothing. Pretty unbalanced.
  • Doors should be more hardy, maybe 3 times as much.
  • The small dummy turret only appears to work about 50 percent of the time indoors.

I think that's all for now, I love the game and really tried to contribute constructively here. The main reason I came here to post this was I was terribly frustrated with trying to get other people to play the game with me, there was a lot of resistance with it being so rough on the edges. Another friend of mine is really digging the game too and we had some great 1v1s, even with the controllers not being entirely functional. You've got a decent game here, but it could be a great game if you gave it a little polish in some areas.

That would only happen if weegee became a developer. Something along the lines of weegee's Unmapped Lands will be the main feature of the game in the future [not currently available to B24], but it is being made by Data and his developers. weegee's mods will remain as such.

You, however, are perfectly entitled to create major overhauls of vanilla content, provided you distribute it as such.

Well, I'm talking about a quick fix for now, I'm not data, I'm just an end user. I'm only talking about what I think is a good PR move. While I'm okay with the DIY nature of the game, I've noticed many are offended with how buggy the game is. It doesn't have to be that way, little things can be fixed and really improve the overall experience with new players. Upon cementing that relationship with them they will come back for more..

In previous version all but the light and particle digger could dig through steel. The heavy is now the only one which i think is a reasonable change.
I agree with the actor crushing.
I agree with the medic drone
The no arms thing does not happen quite a lot to me, also, gun getting shot out of your hands in real life can happen.
Diggers as weapons is probably the most effective against ai imo, however, playing against local players... They aren't stupid enough to let you get close enough..

Little things are being fixed. If you want a vanilla overhaul, then it's a case of DIY. If you want hardcoded things changed by Data, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the next build, like we all are. It took Data 1.5 years for this build, and only the final months of that were actually him coding anything.

Thankfully, he seems to have gotten quite into Cortex Command again what with the bundle, and we are seeing him more and more often here. What you have to understand is, Data takes his time between the builds and that's the way it is. We're all hoping for a less buggy version next time around, but in the meantime we're all making our own stuff and expanding the game in the directions we want, with the resources available.

You've unfortunately come into the game during a pretty big transition build - we just switched from having a Campaign mode designed for missions to the Scenario mode you're using, which is all based on gamemodes. A lot of the bugs are because some of those activities are no more than a month old. Rest assured, they won't be nearly as buggy by the next version!
I agree with many of your comments on the content, and that's also something we're still working on. The Medic drone probably won't even be in the game for long, as it was a test of the new Lua functions for B23 more than anything.
I also agree with you that weegee does a great job of making missions. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, the game is moving more toward activities than standalone missions, and that's why his content likely won't be added to the game. It's still possible that he'll join the development team at some point, but no promises.
Thanks for the feedback! We'll be taking a look at this while we rework some of the content.

Noob here: great feedback OP. I agree completely. There is probably nothing more frustrating to me right now than friendly fire/ jetpacking/ stepping-on.

They are meant to be. They just weren't particularly finished on their introduction.
