Post Rigs of Rods
Quote:
Rigs of Rods is an open source vehicle simulator licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. What makes Rigs of Rods different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles, machines, objects, etc. are simulated in real-time as flexible soft-body objects, giving the simulation an extremely accurate behavior which entirely depends on the physical construction of the vehicles or objects you create.

Right of their forum. And an additional video. There's tons of mods in the repository both vehicles and terrains.

I did find this game a couple of years ago, but it didn't really grip my full attention until I tried some rock crawling a couple of days ago. The fact that some vehicles have flexible tires completely blew me away, as well as the system that's used to calculate the physics.

tl;dr: vehicle sim with some of the best physics yet, cranes and some other cool ♥♥♥♥.

Download it, drive around, get some mods, crawl some rocks and report back with your favorite cars.

I want to know if I can drive off the back of a moving truck, or skydive a jeep out of a heli.

I'd try it myself but it's incompatible with my specs. :x

I installed it, but it looks like it doesn't come with any default vehicles. My menu is empty and all of the folders that would contain vehicles and such are empty. Am I missing something, or am I just supposed to download user-created content from the repository?
EDIT:
Ah, they've just switched to a new installer today that doesn't include the content. And the content still hasn't uploaded. Excellent.
Guess I'll wait, then.

I remember this. There was this Burnside car that was fun to play with - it kind-of realistically did impacts <30 mph, but any faster than that, and it got horribly destroyed. I ran into a wall doin' 80, and the length was reduced by 3/5.

One of the best simulators i tried and still funny, ;)

But for aircrafts i will suggest open source FlightGear Flight Simulator.

Yeah, I figured out the content last night and gave it a shot.
The simulations weren't quite as awesome as I had expected from the trailer, but it's still pretty cool. The cars definitely feel heavy, but I found myself getting stuck a lot (and no, it wasn't just the car stalling) and you seem to lose traction extremely easily.

On my game, the cars are listed as having 0 mass. Is this normal?

Mass isn't really realistic in this game.

>>TLB

Have you tried cars with flex tires? Those get the job done on hills and such.

I didn't end up trying the trucks, but I sort of figured they would be easier to handle.
I played with the cars, realized they were all rather slippery, got bored of them and flew an airplane into a hill a few times. I'll probably come back to it later, but at that point it was one in the morning. :P

This game is awesome but my computer kinda LAGS.
I have to play it in 480*600 and full performance to have an almost smooth animation.
Anyway, the cars drift each time you go up to 10 KM/H and steer right or left.
Impossible to control. I havent tried planes/copters but it seems ultra-hard to control too.
I'll come back on it when I'll have a "good" computer else than a Pentium M...

Yeah the game is ultra CPU consuming. Best to do is to disable graphic enhancements, and get a dual core CPU :D Game likes multi threading and dual cores, not like other games (yes Data you are a lazy slob)
