Q: Perf Survey Netbook? And a Hello!
Hello DR forums and members,
I bought HB2 and really love CC! I'm on a netbook running W7 Ultimate w/2GB ram and an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz processor. I really love it, but alas, it's pretty slow on my 'book! I definitely got a speed increase at 640x480 rez but I was wondering two things:
1. Searching on the forums I noticed the Performance Request Vista and Older CPUs topic. Is there any need for more data? I gotz it!
2. What are tricks to make CC run faster (anything to reduce the # of sprites from debris and corpses perhaps?)
(Secret no.) 3. Where can I submit a feature request; as a netbook user I'd definitely like to request more video options to get that FPS a-bangin'!
Thanks!
Laahv, Sadakat

Try this guide to learn a bit about the settings you can tweak to increase your performance.

Re: Q: Perf Survey Netbook? And a Hello!
The problem is that CC uses raw CPU power, and sometimes even that fails and it just runs slow on a 2.*ghz. But the biggest problem remains that the only multicore support is the one in your OS, making sure that CC runs on the ONE core it uses and nothing else. And 1.6 should be quite able to give you 40-60 fps on the resolution that is appropriate for CC(640-480 on smaller screens or 700/800-*** on bigger ones.)
Also, since this topic will be looked at by other HB2 buyers with performance problems: YES, it does run better on intel processors, most notably the i* series give extreme performance.(up to a thousand fps on medium resolutions.)

If they agree that it would be a useful feature, it'd be added to Data's 'to do' list-thing, and eventually, he might get to it if he also agrees that it's important. TheLastBanana or CaveCricket48 might be your best bet, since numgun quit and bubs isn't very active on the forums. All of this information is just off my memory so maybe I'm wrong, dunno.

Oh my, have HB2 buyers been st8 trollin'? I'm so sorry. Thanks for the guide, 411. I certainly understand that lag is expected (such is my life), but I'd love for CC to run as smooth as butter - it's quite fantastic after all! Looks like I'll be sending a PM to one of the offic devs Thanks again!

Is there any way to get a look at this "to do" list? Might cut down on feature-request spam.

It's said that linux + wine makes things run smoother, so you could always try that.

Running at that resolution is the way its supposed to be done anyway.
Playing at higher rez is kind of cheating, you can see them from to far away , hope you can optimize succesfully!

Playing on a higher resolution also lags the game.
