Crashes and Segfaults Linux 64 Bit HIB B24
I've been having a consistent problem with Cortex Command crashing mid-game. I am running it on Arch Linux 64 bit. When I run it in terminal and it happens I get the following errors:
$ ./CortexCommand [Error] Failed to Create OpenAL Device. [Error] OpenAL Error: (null). [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. [Error] OpenAL Error: Invalid Value. ./CortexCommand: line 4: 6968 Aborted ./CortexCommand.bin "$@"
Sometimes the last line will read
./CortexCommand: line 4: 6968 Segmentation Fault ./CortexCommand.bin "$@"
Not sure if it's a hardware issue or what. I'm running it on a 2006 Macbook, which has a pretty substandard video card.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm definitely a fan of the game, and looking forward to the campaign!

For better performance and possible fix to your problems - run Windows version under Wine. It's nearly 2x faster, since the port is obviously rushed and not of very high quality.

Well, that's really not that great of a fix. I'm not going to install wine with all of its dependencies and 32 bit libraries just to run this game. Guess I'll just have to wait for the port to improve.

I couldn't get the 64-bit version to start, but the 32-bit version worked pretty well.

Funny enough, 2 years later, version 1.0rc-1, Linux version of course (amd64)and still the same bug Acutually not very funny but Linux seems to be not the priority if that sort of thing gets not fixed in 2 years of deveopment... Guess i will use wine version, if these bugs get not fixed soon...

I'm a advocate of using native builds whenever possible, I'm here to help I've got the game running quite well under 32-bit arch

I know this might sounds like a silly question, but do you have any speakers or headphones attached? It sounds like the game can't interact with your hardware for whatever reason.

32 bit linux version has its own problems. Sluggish mouse movement that makes the game unplayable for starters...

I reported on the same issue in viewtopic.php?f=72&t=31890. It doesn't seem like the sound errors have anything to do with the actual segmentation fault. Running the game under gdb and executing the generate-core-file command when it crashes might provide some info that may be useful for the developers...if they're interested.
