I can't see any pipper or reticle indicating where the mouse cursor is.

There isn't any.
You just move your mouse in a straight line towards the direction you want to shoot.

Hm. I did just notice that a sort of "pipper" pops up when I pick up a weapon, three little white dots indicating where my dummy is "looking", but they're so faint...

I think a small mouse cursor of some sort would be nice, just sayin' - it feels peculiar to move the mouse around, see the dummy "look" in that direction, but not really know WHERE that dummy is looking exactly. The radial menu is mostly nice too, but I find myself fumbling with it when using the mouse, it sorta feels like trying to grab at something "glowing in the dark" but I can't see my "hands".

When you stand still and drag the mouse in a direction, three glowing dots should appear.

That's just the way the game plays. I don't think anyone has made a persistent crosshair, I don't even know if that is possible, but I may be wrong.

If you play with a controller there is a button for aiming, which will bring up the little dots.

Also a heads up, if you want to use a grenade, HOLD the mouse button down. Those same little dots will appear, except there will be a few more of em and in a line. Then release the mouse, and KABLOOEE! First nade throw.

This game DOES feel like it was almost intended to be played with a gamepad. Maybe I should dig my old dual-analog gamepad out.

Does this mean Data had his sights set on a CONSOLE release? But how?

I don't think Data ever thought about a console release.

The point of the aiming system that the game has right now is that it's suppose to be hard to aim using certain weapons. I mean if you could see the cursor you could just take a handgun with low spread and use that rather than a sniper rifle. Right now the aiming is limited to what I'd consider realistic properties of aiming such. Sniper rifles have scopes and other kind of doodads which makes aiming over longer distances much easier and thus the aim is better.

He probably thought about it but quickly realized that it's probably impossible to actually develop the game fast enough to actually release it on a console before the console became replaced by something else. Meaning if he wanted to develop the game for the PS3, he'd have to stop working on the rest of the game just to get what is already done to work on the PS3 and when he's done with that the PS4 will probably have come out and then he'll just have an unfinished game that he can play on the PS3.

Right now Data's time is best spent actually finishing the game.

OK, that makes sense I guess.

Programming for the PS3 is supposedly a bitch-and-a-half anyway, far too much trouble to be worth the CC crew's time and effort. Besides, I'm a PC snob and waving things like CC in the exclusively-console-players' faces feels pretty good. 8)

Does anyone know which file is used for the aim reticule sprites? I'd like to modify them to be more visible, if it hasn't already been done :P

They're hardcoded at the moment, I believe, unless that changed between b23 and b24 (though I somewhat doubt that).

Uh, actually, this form of mouse support is relatively recent. (22 or 23 I believe, maybe 21 at the earliest)
It makes playing with the mouse essentially useless.

The old way was significantly better.
Why he changed it is entirely beyond me.
