Post Wikileaks.org releases information
wikileaks.org released a lot of cables originated from and communicated to U.S. officials.
They say this is the biggest leak a whistleblower has achieved to publicize so far (might be falsely entitled). However, the leaks haven't stopped and will continue to seep.

What do you think about it?

Heard that a lot of it is old news, but they are likely to reveal at least some new, sensitive information, by virtue of the sheer volume.

That tap is dripping. If wikileaks doesn't put the pan under it, someone else will. That said, people need a good conspiracy theory to chew on once and a while, and just the word "Leak" seems to satisfy them, at least form a news perspective.

If anything gets leaked, it gets put on the Wikileaks site. Simple as that. If it's on the internet, it's on Wikileaks. Wikileaks didn't put the pan there, they ARE the pan.

This couldn't be more incorrect.

I'm glad. If something's hidden, it most likely shouldn't be. Power to the people.

About the stupidest point of view I've heard, albeit a disparagingly common one. If the military feels that they have stuff to hide, chances are, it's sensitive information which does not pertain at all to civilian life but which can endanger the lives of soldiers.

For instance, I'm sure there are maps that detail where every soldier employed under the US military is stationed. Do you give a damn about them? Does any civilian? You have no reason to.

Wikileaks does nothing but satiate meaningless curiosity. Of course, the main controversy here is that the information released on Wikileaks can be used by terrorist groups etc against US personnel.

Can't wait till the owner releases the 250 character password to the archive with every piece of info he has.
Joking aside, yes there's a reason why it's hidden.

Although lying is bad, it also protects some people from the harsh truth.

What RDM said. There's no reason you need to know the names of Iraqi spies, informants, troop locations, and things that absolutely no impact on your life. All it does is endanger soldier's lives.

A lot of the information is very sensitive to US troops. While some of it contains atrocities that should be brought to the public the rest may have been declassified within a few years, but providing information to the "enemy" while the operation is ongoing is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah well, maybe if it's that bad to be kept from the public, a high ranking official should think about it before doing it.

Right, because you totally make a public announcement with the exact date and time for the first strike.

What FoiL said. Sometimes you need to be able to come to terms with the fact that you don't need to know EVERYTHING. Plus, the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, etc, do watch TV, you know.

Did you even read my post? They don't hide bad, evil, atrocious acts, they're hiding sensitive, classified information as to the whereabouts and intentions of military personnel in an active war zone.

To put it in a way you might understand, they're basically being very indiscreet spies.

Should no company be allowed to keep trade secrets? Should doctor-patient confidentiality not exist? So you're a nudist now?

To elaborate:
CNN wrote:
...after its release of the Afghan War logs. Human rights organizations and government officials across the world said that the group's failure to remove the names of informants who had helped coalition forces in Afghanistan put those sources in grave jeopardy.

This is a tremendous understatement. Dozens of people, assisting the american government in ways that were certainly not not evil or malicious were tortured and killed as a result of this leak. Wikileaks has this bizarre idea of justice, that "We'll steal what we can, release it all, and maybe some good will magically come of it."

Assange has said in previous interviews that Bank of America leaked him a hard drive, and he's warned that WikiLeaks is planning a major leak about a large bank, according to Forbes.

I can't wait for him to try this. If he ♥♥♥♥ with any one of the major banks, his organization is sunk. Seriously, have fun trying to do business with the world banks doing their best to make your life difficult.
