Post Minecraft
Well, okay, so Minecraft is basically unavoidable in this day and age. Thing is, I'm basically uneducated when it comes to it.

So I'd really like an explanation as to what the game's purpose is, and how you go about getting to it. Because to me it is pretty much putting blocks onto other blocks onto some more blocks with some more blocks thrown in for good blocky measure.

Is it cheap? Is it worth it? Is it actually fun? Does it require lots of system requirements?

In order, it's 15 euros, so yes it's cheap.
Yes it is TOTALLY worth it.
It's only fun if you can make your own fun, like in open world games.
And the system requirements are mid range.

My comp can't handle Minecraft, and I play WoW fine. So the requirements are deceptively high. And I never really found it to be fun, but then again, I'm not very creative when a game requires me to be.

What truly makes it satisfying? What is the ultimate reward for playing it?

In minecraft, you're pretty much some random person who gets dumped in the middle of nowhere. Your immediate goals are to collect resources and survive the first few nights. Once you have a base established, you can do pretty much anything you want. Build a railway system? Explore? Construct replicas of Greek structures? Farm? It's all up to you. The game can be pretty addicting, and if you ever get bored, many people say that simply starting a new, fresh world gets them back into the game.

Well, that pretty much answers my question. I won't be getting Minecraft.

Thanks Cricket.

I reccomend Minecraft over an other game, hoenstly. start off playing creative mode, and ithen play some regular single player on peacefull. then move it so you play with mobs on (in the setting menu thing, its difficulty).

iits ythe greatest gamwe ive eber played, and hasd the most replay value over any other game i whave. what other gamew makes an infintite map that is randomly generated as you go along? and what other game m,akes as beautidful landscapes? none, thats how many.

if you spent it, you;d end up loving it.

I'll try a free version but in all honesty this game doesn't sound like me.

And you must be really ♥♥♥♥ high or something.

Is there any struggle to surviving the first few nights? That's what turned me off DF. It's kind of fun as a box of ugly legos, but there's no actual challenge.

It comes down to luck. If you don't find coal on your first day, you're pretty much destined to run all night trying to avoid monsters. If you do find coal, in sufficient supply, you can theoretically never bother with monsters again by staying in well-lit enclosures during the night.

Don't forget about the caves. The underground network is absolutely swarming with monsters, and things can go downhill extremely easy when you break into an unexplored area.

That mod which adds new mobs definitely makes the game more challenging.
I had ogres smashing in through the walls of my base every night, until I built an additional perimeter wall to keep them away from me.

Then I tamed a unicorn and lost my base. <3
I was looking for a pegasus. :(
