Re: Art Dump
Thanks guys! Madmax, I really appreciate the feedback. I like this gun and I want to approve it, so any constructive criticism is very welcome. First, well, this: Not many noticeable changes, but perhaps it looks a bit better. Then, I searched online for an ergonomic handle. I think it's better, but odd. Then with some help from Lizard, I realized the handle is a revolver grip. Yep... I'm really not sure what to think. I'll probably redo it, but I thought I'd post it.

Re: Art Dump
GRIP MAKES AWESOM. Seriously, it really makes it less plasticy and more plasmay. I think your other challenge is having a pink ray gun. Jussayin.

Re: Art Dump
Yea, I think the revolver styled grip fits the gun, especially since it has no magazine. I think the trigger area could be larger. Just a hobo sleeping in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow. Terribly small, I know. Just trying to improve my pixel-arranging skills AKA pixel art.

Re: Art Dump
Not really small, at all. Needs less sketchyness.

Re: Art Dump
But why? the detail is where it's needed, at the focal point. Sure it'd be nice if he'd done chunky dithering on the background lighting but the gradient is still there visually.

I mean, just cleaned it up a bit, killed the rogue pixels.

Re: Art Dump
I hear ya. I got lazy on the gradients and such, I know pixel art is a bad medium to try when doing sketchy things but I didn't want to spend forever on it.

Re: Art Dump
That's really cool, why did you only use 4 colours?

Re: Art Dump
Game Boy spec. I'm thinking I might actually recode the site to look all chunky and 2-bit colour as well, but it could make me like every other indie with lo-fi graphics.

Re: Art Dump
Nice one Geti! The monochrome looks good! The way the man is walking reminds me of a CC character... Anyway, i think it's kind of funny. His face is really expressionless and dead though... I think it would look a lot better if he looked worried and dismayed. >:D Okay Madmax. I've always thought good art deserves good critique. It's just been hard to really give a good critique on anything you do since it's usually so huge! I just don't have the time or sanity to slowly go over a huge piece and refine it to serve as an example. But this! This is a different story. Now I really like your Hobo piece. The form is good, the colors are good, and the ideas are good. One thing that isn't good, sadly, is the shading. There's ambient light! While this is acceptable for the day-time, the black sky implies night... When it's night, the strong light of the sun no longer out-shines light sources like torches, flashlights, or lamps! Light dominates the scene and creates harsh contrasts! Here's a list of what I consider to be imperfections: - Parts of the image where light shouldn't be shining are oddly bright, such as the wall on the far left of the image, or the back of the sign (the one in front of the hobo.)
- The wall is oddly shaded; parts closest to the lamp are darker than parts closer to the hobo... this might mean that the lamp isn't right up against the wall, but then the lamp should be lower in the image and adjusted to the left.
- The shadow on the hobo is also odd, like it's from in front of him. This again may have been your intention, but the position of the lamp seems off.
- There's white by the hobo and lamp, I can only assume it's meant to be snow, but it looks more like cob webs. It seems unaffected by the lamp and is simply whiter by the hobo and the lamp.
- The sky is very nice, I like the sketchy quality it has, but I think cutting out the starlight or the moon is a missed opportunity, especially since it could balance out the picture a little.
- The wall is odd, the side with the hobo is all broken down while the side tapering off to the left is perfectly intact... the broken wall is very well done however, and looks natural.
Overall there's great shape and form, colors, and style, however the shading feels lacking... Knowing me I probably didn't make much sense, so here's my example. It isn't perfect, but enh. A lot of your work seems to have ambient lighting... and with ambient lighting you don't get much practice with shading. I think you're on the right track with this though! (For anyone interested I also have a video of me making the majority of the changes here. Sadly it's real-time since any attempt to time-lapse it made the filesize go DO DA MOOOON. This is simply the easiest to share form, but if anyone can time lapse it for me without making the file 68 GB that would be awesome. Otherwise you'll just have to tough it out or increase the framerate yourself.)

Re: Art Dump
His face was meant to be "staunch", though he just looks kind of spaced out and panicked in-game
