Re: Ladders, why don't they work.
Ladders works, just walk forward and face up. Though said ladders are usually climbed by less nimble ACrabs.

It looks like it should work, but seeing how haxy the limbs are, it's no wonder it doesn't work. They can be used to hold on to while charging jets. If you're lucky.
Try scaling a vertical wall with a dreadnought, though.
Edit: Ditto.

Yeah ladders are useless.
Problem: Fixing them would require a completely overhaul of most of the movement system. While this is certainly desirable, as with many things, asking Data to do it is either A: completely pointless or B: going to take so goddamn long that you're better off getting used to it.

Re: Ladders, why don't they work.
The ladder climbing system can work, it's just that actors are too heavy, the ladders are too weak, and the limbpaths of many actors are flawed. Buy a skeleton, build a ladder, and you'll see that the current climbing system can work, it just usually doesn't due to recent content that wasn't made with climbing in consideration.
But, to have the current heavy actors climb, the ladders would probably have to be ridiculously strong, so fixing the content to make it work with the current climbing system wouldn't really be practical anyways.

I recently downloaded build 15, and I have to say I like that builds climbing system better. It allowed delegged robots to walk with their hands.

We could just use Lua instead of overhauling the movement system.

It would kinda go against CC's "physics-only" movement style.

Re: Ladders, why don't they work.
Ladders work for me quite often but it seems that at any time my guy might randomly fall over. Reasonably reliable for short distances but frustrating for long stretches.

Re: Ladders, why don't they work.
I try to use ladders when I can't use my jetpack to get up a ledge because of a heavy actor, but hence they won't work, as the actor is too heavy. Hm.

Jetpacking seems weird too. Jetpacking a heavy actor will cause him to fall on his face. I like it as a feature though.
