Post Odd Crash
I've been running Cortex Command for a while now with this intermittent issue: Seemingly randomly, the game locks my computer up with the speakers emitting a continuous high pitched tone. Same tone every time. There is no consistent repeatable way to cause it. It sometimes happens in the opening movie, sometimes only after playing for 2 hours. Sometimes only when I'm going to click save on a newly edited awesome scene!!

Anyways, I am running Windows 7 x64 build 7100 currently. It did the same exact same thing on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 before this too. Hardware; Core2 Quad q9550, 750i SLI FTW motherboard, 2x GTX260 Core 216's configured SLI, Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XTreme Gamer, 4 gigs Crucial ram (2x2). I am running Cortex Command at 1280x720 in a window (as opposed to full screen).

Any ideas on what I might do to work around this would be greatly appreciated! I've tried a few things, but my experience with this program is comparatively low!

Scale Cortex down. That really is a big window. As has been said in other threads, 800*600 is the optimum size.

I love looking through the unanswered posts

640x480 is actally the resolution it was designed for, so run that in 2x pixels and you should be fine.

I am aware of this, as it is the default, but in another thread it was agreed that 800*600 has the most enjoyment factor.

Roast Veg, why did you make a year's necro? This guy probably fixed it on his own, by now. Jez.

It was helpful, so it's not technically a necro.

I hate to revive this post but it saves me making another one. I am getting the exact same issue as the OP. Locks up with a high pitched whine coming from the speakers. Have to reset the PC.

I have tried multiple resolutions. Changing the install DIR, Using compatibility setting, disabling sound, under clocking the pc. All to no avail.

Its a damn shame coz this game is brilliant but I have yet to complete a mission.

Well, the symptoms are a 'hang' when there's a sound playing, which loops continuously on that annoying high-pitched note. Did you update your audio drivers?

Yup, I am aware of A creative issue called "the squeal of death" I have used 2 versions and had the same results. In an effort to play the game I even took it out and used my headset. Same results :(

Yea its not related to sound drivers i think. I removed my sound card and all trace of the drivers. Still get the crash. Its an strange as it it totally random when it happens. There does not seem to be an obvious event that caused it.

I spent 3 days trying to figure it out. Ended up uninstalling it but i am going to keep an eye on the forums for future updated as its a damn good game.
