Post Cortex Command Opensorce?
Wouldn't it be greated if we could mod the gamecode? to make the game run more smoothly? and add in new and improved features like submenus for buying mode?

so i ask you do you think we should try an OS Cortex Command thats just a basic game with like 1 map for testing?

First off, open sourcing a commercial game is retarded. Secondly, what do you mean by OS Cortex Command? I seriously doubt you could turn CC into an operating system. If you mean a barebones version then that already exists.

It isn't going to happen. Trust me.

Even if it would, Data is out of touch and could not release the source code.

When he said "OS" he meant Open Source, as in FOSS "Free and Open Source Software," not as in Operating System.

Commercial products have not been shown to be a useful thing to Open-Source, and the only examples I can think of were even smaller than CC.
That said, I would appreciate the ability to buy access to the source, even if releasing derivatives was strictly prohibited.
It's not gonna happen in a million years.

We can't do anything. Data is going to sell the engine source to people much like unreal does with it's engine source code. The closest thing you'd get would be a SDK, which you've already practically got what with the whole modding thing.

ok , well that idea went down the drain is there anyway to contact data to get him to add a huge amount of items and weapons and units and modules and basicly improve the game?

Data is on pretty good terms with the Wolfire guys, so it isn't necessarily as unlikely as everyone says.
That said, I still can't really see it happening, but you never know.

It is when he's talked about selling the source as a possible form of secondary revenue...
