wiping out megaton is a great example of a goal, but don't be afraid to give me something else to do, like make a blood sacrifice of all the residents of tenpenny tower, or the cannibals or something. And no, the behemoths don't count because if I tried one now I'd be squashed, I'm only level 4)

Afaik there are two ways to explode megaton, one where you accept the guy in the hat's quest and rig it according to his instructions. Two, agree to disarm it, then rig it to explode (not sure if you can do this, or if the only options are disarm and leave alone).
