Re: Sprite Help Thread
I have tried my hand out at sprites for about a month now and would like some input on where I could improve because I know I need a lot of it.. Here are some simple weapons that I made earliest being at the top and most resent being bottom.. Please Harsh Criticism is welcomed it would take more than that to get me down.. Also if I didn't get the point of the OP and this isn't whats this thread is for then I am very, very, sorry..

Re: Sprite Help Thread
You've got the point of the topic entirely correct. You need to drop the black outlines and shade with less of a gradient. It's less terrible than pillow shading, but only just. Think about what the forms actually look like. Shapes are pretty strong though.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
A lot of the shapes there are too soft and need to be more edgy.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Mmn, I dunno. I quite like the silhouettes of the lower 3.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
The silhouettes are fine, but it's the shapes inside I'm talking about.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I agree with you guys, the shape is good, but the lines and definition need work. Moar contrast.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
All that was very helpful.. Now that I look back at them after taking what you guys said into consideration I can see what you guys are talking about... I will continue to work on them and maybe post them here again to see what you guys think again...
Big Thanks!!

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I tried to add a heavy coalition mask to Brutus, I did a few things to try to fix it myself, But when ingame his head is either a bloody mess as if gibbed or it looks fine until you look to the left and pixels go crazy.
I was using Paint.net

Re: Sprite Help Thread
[Image Removed] Guns I was working on tonight. They're supposed to look like old military equipment, powered by plasma cells, or something like that. I think I messed up on the shading on the third one, and the custom magazines need work, but I'd like some outside opinions. The outlines are atrocious. Edit,

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Well. This thread is apparently still alive and no one's helping out... I feel a kind of responsibility.
Oobagoo: Your shading isn't bad, but your sprites are definitely too small atm. Compare to vanilla sprites and resize accordingly- until then there isn't much real critique I can make.
Non: Not bad, but your sprites are a little too dark- the bulk of the pixels don't contrast well with the outlines (which I find appropriately dark) or the rust, which doesn't become apparent until 8x zoom. The barrels of the second and third have a clustering of pixels of the same colour. You can do something with that. The first stock is shaded kinda poorly, cut down on that bright shade. The second stock needs to a little more bulk. I know it won't be proportional but conveying the message is much more important than proportions. Also, your clips are far too large.
(and yes I said clips just to piss you guys off)

Me too, but I can't help people who just add randomly pixels to vanilla guns and didn't decided yet how's gonna end that sprite... someday we'll have this kind of request: Please help me to make my device look better. Please, novice people, follow procedures, they end nicely.

Who are you addressing with that post? And, I will see if I can work on making my sprites a tad bigger next weekend, when I (hopefully) have more time. Thanks for criticism on the shading, I just thought they didn't fit in with vanilla much because of lack of easily visible outlines, but I guess that's just me, hm?

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I was linking to basics of spriting, made by CrazyMLC, a great tutorial in my opinion.
About your sprites, I think there's no place for detail if you sprite them soo small...

I wasn't meaning you, you're pretty good for novice, its been a long way until i'm watching anonymous self-claimed heroes spriting poops and shielding behind "hey ma mod rulez and kill everything!" forgetting it looks like face-stabs.
