Considering that random would mean a roughly equal distribution of playtime between all races, I wonder why you would be bad at toss. They are the easiest race to play, by far- though they are slightly weaker to certain cheeses, Zerg is even worse in that regard by how polarized their units and tech are.

I'm just bad at protoss versus protoss.

Good golly, that game is AWESOME. Sure, the story is pure wtf, but the steampunkness of it beats just about anything else.

Not you dxp, I was obviously talking to the guy who said "I play random most of the time." and "I suck at protoss" in the same post.

WARNING: VERBAL DIARRHEA AHEAD:

Anyways how's everyone finding TvZ? I've only really experienced it a lot from the T side and even before hearing all the "TvZ is broke" QQ I thought it was the easiest matchup in the world as I always went the Destiny Cloud Fist Opener (Barracks into Factory into Starport), then I'd Hellion harass and see if they got Roaches. If they got Roaches I'd know their lair was delayed I'd get a Banshee or two to harass (Banshees kill Queens 1v1). Cloak if they didn't have Lair on the way or Spore Crawlers. I would get a nice Thor/Hellion mix if that failed. If they held off the Hellions and didn't get Roaches, and instead went for Lair, I'd often get Banshee's anyways as that can win you the game, but I'd also sometime go straight to Thors as Thors beat Mutalisks and are decent against Hydras (Hellions are good against Hydras anyways so it doesn't matter). However one game I was stomped pretty hard by a good Roach timing push (Thors come out late), and when I play Zerg air never gives me too much trouble as I just get redundant Queens and an Evo Chamber as soon as I scout it (Zerg production is limited by Hatcheries not by minerals; so the cost is no prob). So I dunno.

But then I saw Morrow owning Idra with mass Reapers, and heard all the QQing, so I dunno. I find my Zerg respectively comparable to my Terran when I'm giving it my all in both cases. But when I'm having a bad day, Terran is MUCH easier to play. But on the other other hand I don't play much ZvT- and no ones QQing about ZvP, at least not yet. Though PvZ 2 Gate before Core proxy is only beginning to proliferate...

:P

Anyway, TvZ feels broken to certain people. They feel that terran is too overpowered. However, the main thing with zerg is trying to end it earlier, before the terran get the heavy stuff. Reapers with zerg does feel broked but all you really have to do is get a spine crawler near your harvesters and speedling upgrade. The main theme of zerg is to keep the pressure on. Usually with a single type of unit. Causing the terran to panic and only counter that unit type. As is zerg's nature, they can transition quickly and you can switch from mass lings to mass roaches or mutas fairly fast. The main problem with Zerg is that they are terribly weak against air. The only tier 1 UNIT able to even attack air is a queen. Now this is an issue for newer players who aren't used to the whole three tier main building concept. A concept heavily used in Warcraft 3. So zerg sometimes fall behind dramtically in the tiers and can be susceptible to early air rushes. Common tactics include fast pheonix harass, banshee cloak harass and fast mutalisks. A good tip for zerg players, and i found this out the hard way, try to keep as much of the enemy's base in sight at all times. Knowing what the enemy does will greatly affect whether or not you will win. Zerg also is meant to endlessly spill out waves of units. Hotkey all your hatcheries and just spam the hotkey. And when your maxed out keep spamming larva at your hatcheries. Most of the time 200 supply zerg cannot defeat a 200 terran or 200 protoss army with good variance in the army composition. The biggest thing to me is always gas, i always find myself low on gas for air. Just my 2 cents.

For those who went tl;dr, basically Zerg requires more skill period.

IMO it's early game where Zerg is at its worse, especially vs Terran. You can't really do early aggression vs Zerg as they can wall out your lings, repair their wall as you attack with lings/roaches, and simply slap on additional layers if you go for the all-in baneling bust. Not only that, but Terran has so many tools at his disposable in the early game, and you have to scout and counter them all. Zerg can't be offensive at all early game vs Terran unless you go something dumb like 6 pool on a small map or proxy hatch cancel evo to prevent the wall off. Both of those have a laughably amount of viability. Being hit by early air isn't a matter of teching up, as all races can get air units with three buildings, but Zerg has to watch out for so many different things, Hellions, Reapers (especially with Marauder transition), Banshees, Thorships, all sorts of ♥♥♥♥. You can't really scout with ovas as they can be denied with a few Marines.

Zerg even has trouble pushing midgame with how slow Hydras are off creep. Though pushing midgame isn't impossible. Infestors are great all the time though.

Zerg does have good harass options midgame though, with Mutas and speedlings at expos (where there won't be walls and probably not all of the opponent's forces), Nydus Worms and drops. As well as good scouting and minor harass with Overseers. Late game Broodlords and even Ultras when positioned correctly are very powerful.

Actually, terran is ridiculously vulnerable with the maps where there is two ramps to your base.
Zerg is one of the most ridiculously difficult races to play as.

Generals Player here.

Also, anyone up for Remix .75?

Tactic:
Maintain an overview over opponent, turtle, then go through a 'chessboard' routine. Pretty much it.

Hi!! :D

EDIT:

Why I like Remix .75(mod).

"AHAHAHAHA What's wrong, too many?"

I am game for trying a new generals mod. You can usually find me in the IRC channel linked in the OP.

I might be a bit (lolwut) late to answer this, but I actually find zerg much easier to use than, say a terran or 'toss tech build. You do have to try and finish the game a bit earlier than the other races, and air defense is much difficult unless you spam hydras, but they do have some of the best opening builds out there.

Usually, my choice is to get 2 workers, pool, ova before the pool finishes (all of them go scout), 6 zerglings then do the rush.

-if it works, great. Go for the barracks then the workers. Game won, or at least hindered the opponent a lot.

-If your 'lings hit a bunker or other construction, retreat, 8 more workers and two extractors, blast your way through with a few banelings, swarm the inside with massed 'lings.

-If your zerglings were defeated by massed units, extractor again and tech up to roaches with burrow movement. Use a few zerglings as a distraction, then send the bugs inside the enemy perimeter.

After that, there's a series of paths you can take, my favourite one being a mixed roach/hydra task force.

So yeah, I think zerg's actually pretty easy, it just requires a bigger focus on micro. Or maybe I just love microing. :P (And roaches, they're cute.)
