Yeah I agree that shield + Nailer Cannon is the best combo for direct confrontations, but if I am trying to beat a level without taking damage, I'd use a GL and a Sniper Rifle.

But you also have to remember to be creative with your approach. I remember one of the major breakthroughs I made when trying to beat the Zombie Cave without buying anything or taking any damage (and this one of the older builds where crouching hard was potentially fatal) was weakening the first zombie generator to the point where it would take only a few hits to break and then destroying it as the Ronin walked in, crushing them.

It's not all that hard, just get two Heavy Snipers on each side ⎯top of the bunker and right entrance⎯ and switch between them every once in a while when dummies start attacking from the right (but that's just my tactic). However, at the end, it's hard to survive. I was so close to escaping when a dummy came falling from the sky and crushed my brain.

I was really pissed.

This mission is pure awesomeness when played with a friend or two. The escape was so epic as one brain and two Light Clones were rushing to the top platform. The other clone lost it's legs and main weapon and stayed behind to hold the dummies off with nothing but a pistol. He was overrun by the sheer number of the enemies coming from both directions. Meanwhile, the other clone and the brain continued to fight their way upstairs.

It was a moment of pure joy when my friends brains got loaded in the ship and it dusted off.

Also, another time, playing 2-player Maginot, both brains were at the last doors before the escape rocket when the other died of bleeding. So close, but so far. Like, "Go on without me!" It was even holding it's hands like it.

Two players and doubled spawn rates would make this mission even more fun.

The AI would need to be less self destructive and movement quicker for that to be much fun. There's a point where they just end up crushing each other all the time. That's why CroboTech has the funnest activities.

A way to only walkthrough your own team really should be implemented.

Hitmos can't be changed through lua, can it?

There is "SetWhichMOsToNotHit" function (if I remember it's name correctly). Using that you can make CC ignore collision between two objects.
So making it is the most easy than implementing other ideas.

Stupidly enough, it can only be called once per frame, according to TLB. Yeah, it's kind of feasible, but it'd be nicer if it were handled engine-side.

Yeah, a number of Lua mods rely on both of these methods. Darkstorm's ammo packs rely on the former while a variety of other mods which create projectiles outside of conventional means rely on the latter.

So theoretically you could have team based collisions, if your computer can handle the extra fluff, that is.

Pretty much. Crowd-mowing is always so much more fun if you can have a much higher enemy density.

I've found that one dreadnought on the stairs right next to the horizontal doors can survive the whole time(provided you don't get digger rushed). just check outside to the right for digger brain assassins periodically and you'll be fine.

Maginot is easy!

Although I did lose in this one, I was just guarding the top of the base pissing about, when some 500mph projectile torso dummy came flying into the ship my wounded brain droid was sitting in and blew it to smithereens from the impact.
