Well, with the way china is acting and such, id place my bet that they might be trying to make a shot to take over the world. It seems that they intentionally cripple most other countries industries to remove or lower theyre ability to produce items essential to a war effort, so when they DO start to conquer, they minimize resistence, because the army up against them is running out of supplies.

Then theres the mass purchasing of US debt, which if recalled chould destroy the US Economy ( I believe anyway.)

Here's the hypothetical China/America war:

China sells of mass amounts of American debt, causing a medium sized stock market crash.
China experiences a crippling stock market crash, seeing as the entire freaking world leans on the U.S's economy.
China experiences a second crash as the rest of the world ceases major imports of useless crap from China due to a combination of embargos and a dwindling market.
China's highly volatile business economy will collapse, putting the final nail in the coffin.
Meanwhile, the US's non-export-based economy is on the route to recovery.

Battle won, no shots fired.

The entire world economy is too intertwined for the superpowers to rationally declare war on each other. Contrary to whatever you may/may not believe, crazy people don't become leaders of nations with billions of citizens.

The only "crazy" world leaders we have currently hail from North Korea, Iran, and maybe just a little bit Israel. (note: crazy as in, crazy enough to attack a superpower/other nation, not "crazy enough to attack their own citizens" a la Africa etc)

The rest are mostly harmless.

Dont forget the greatest weakness of the capitalist system is its currency, which China is undermining (http://www.nuwireinvestor.com/articles/ ... 53971.aspx I gotta figure that link thing out ), Which is reducing the buying power (Gradually) of the US Dollar, which means its harder for the US to recover from its debt. China seems to know what its doing, and chould damage the US Economy by simply waiting for the damage thats already done to come to effect. Then if there is some sabotage thrown into accellerate the downfall and you end up with a fallen super power.

The only people who are taking over the world are supercorporation owners. Your average superpower is powerless against slow corporate takeover.

Read what I wrote again. Economies don't collapse gradually. For the sake of it's own survival, China cannot, under any circumstances, seriously damage the US's economy.
This also ignores the fact that in a time of crisis debt is irrelevant, i.e., tanks now, bills later.

Naah. Ultimately, China's plans are to trade with everybody else. For example, the Zheng He treasure fleet (which was THE major Chinese naval voyage of its time) was aiming to trade with foreign countries. Even though it has enough army personnel to conquer a small kingdom, it was only used to escort the treasure ships from pirates.
So China's supposed growth is nothing to worry about, if you're willing to trade with them.

I wouldn't be surprised if most world leaders are taking from various supercorps, be it legally or illegally.

Honestly, China is probably as dependent on USA as the other way around. USA is a huge source of income for China, so if the economy of USA crashed, China would probably lose a lot of money in the end. I mean really, just how often do we see "Made in China" on things? (i don't think i've ever written USA and China so many times in one post)

Pretty much, the debt is meaningless.

What's China going to do about it? Start a war and end the world?


Also, Federal Reserve owns a bunch of US debt. Believe it or not, a majority shareholder in the federal reserve is the Queen of England.
Also, the collateral for the debt to them is all of the Govt. Land (State Parks etc.)

Did I mention that they print the US currency?


In the regard that the US Economy supports a bunch of economies. We have a recession, whole world has a recession. Look at Spain for pete's sake.

Since then, I think Europe has passed the US, but that just means that both are incredibly important.
