Re: Concept art
Good heavens, I love the space map. Suddenly, there's a whole universe for CC to happen in! Space amoebas ftw. - Coalition is awesome. awesomeawesomeawesome. Smexyyy. Kewl. (Insert sinonym rant here). - The techion... I was kind of sad to discover that they are just robotic henchmen for some random space company. I always imagined them as ultra-advanced self-replicant hive-minded unknow-origin space-alien robots. - Imperatus seems very cool, but it's hard to tell just from the text. Pics plz? - Great backstory for the dummies. Would you allow me to make a smal suggestion, though? What if, to escape, the CPU had hijacked a FreeTrade transport ship with advanced secret technologies and landed (or even better, crash-landed) it on the game's Planet? Hunting them down could be one of the reasons for the appearance of the Tradestar over that particular planet, so far from the OSA's core. - The Ronin were kind of a letdown. I mean, body-stealing space bandits? Hasn't every single futuristic game got those? Real people would be much cooler. - Uzira is cool, and misteeeeerious. Which is even cooler. -Mu-Illak are awesome. Like, totes awsom. Srlsy, bro. - Life forms are very cool, thumbs up. And that's it, I guess. But man, are those clones awesome!

Re: Concept art
Agreed on the Ronin. I would definitely prefer them to have some sort of agenda, other than flying around and stealing stuff. I like that they have no access to Tradestar.
It seems wasteful to only use the green dummies in the tutorial mission. I'd like it if they were available as (as you said) a general purpose labour unit, similar perhaps to how robot 1 and 2 are at the moment.

Re: Concept art
like pete say it would we cool have them like workers (why use a expensive high tech soldier to dig when you can use cheap robots) and after thinking in the tool the green dummy have, why not make a tool for repair the bunker turrets?? like the med packs for actors but just for turrets

Re: Concept art
Engineer units woulda been cool to have in CC, either like ronin guys with a bag filled with stuff or a high tech hovering techion drone.

Re: Concept art
I was thinking the Ronin is a label for all sorts of random unwanted elements. They're not all just terrorists, anti-capitalists or freedom fighters. Some Ronin are fully human because they were born on worlds where there are no way to undergo a disembodiment procedure. Some remain human by choice.
The particular Ronin which I'm describing in my scenario stories does have an agenda, but they're not having much success. I'm using them to show what would happen if a regular human opposed a superhuman / combat robot. Or what would happen if crowds of humans were... well, you get the point.
When it comes to the anti-transcendence movement, the Robopope was/is probably a big player. Ironically, his struggle forced him to became more machine than man himself, and removed him far from his original ideologies.
The CMF buys bodies from a large corporation (Alchiral) and does not produce them themselves. Initially robotic bodies were preferred by the military corporations because of their strength and durability. Organic bodies were mainly used by the large settled human populations in the core worlds (well, at least those who could afford the upkeep of a human body). The head of a corporation might also choose a charismatic human body when issuing PR statements, etc.
However, recent advances in bioengineering has made the organic bodies viable for use in warfare, and the CMF were the first to jump aboard that ship. The CMF believes that a human soldier brain will operate better in a more comfortable human body. In their recruitment propaganda, the use of human bodies is a way to remind people what they are fighting for.
In reality, a lot of CMF soldier brains are stationed on patrol ships which may not see any action for long periods of time. While spending excessive amounts of time surfing the UC (UniCluster) is very popular, the CMF also believes that a soldier should be kept close to his humanity. This is why human bodies are used in training and physical recreation.
Ultimately, the Alchiral doesn't think that the CMF makes up a big enough market segment to warrant the development of a military model, and as it is, their current models are already ahead those of their competitors.
The FreeTrade logo is based on the one on my TradeStar intro slide, yeah. I added a dot in the middle to give it a creepy 'all-seeing eye' / omniscience feel.
Still working on the Imperatus lineup. I have some old concepts for them but cleanup is needed.
Dummies could be widely available for all factions, sure. It would be a copy paste/recolor thing? I kind of think of them as the various robots that you see on the street early in "I, Robot" (Will Smith movie).

Re: Concept art
For you that are not familiar with I, robot should go see that NOW.
The CMF promoting human bodies for things other than warfare seems pretty hman and interesting, could be a good scenario for "brain training" where you control three coalition units lost-vikings style and go through a maze or something for a tutorial. If someone else aren't going to do this I swear I will.
Imperatus sounds like those guys that have the biggest digging machines. A scene based on a digging machine would most certainly fit them :3
Dummies for every faction sounds great, nothing to add to that.

Re: Concept art
All of that sounds great, especially the idea of human bodies being a PR move in some ways, but I'm intrigued by this 'UniCluster' you speak of. I assume it is roughly equivalent to the internet?
I have to say, I'm consistently impressed by the amount of thought you put into your designs.

Re: Concept art
Getting a nice back story built up here.
To be honest with the FreeTrade logo, i preferred the angular one to the new curvy one.

Re: Concept art
AT-43 has a race called Therians. I don't know much about them, but apparently they are disembodied and spend much of their time on the EMI grid (which seems to be like a version of /b/ ). I haven't finished writing the section about what people do in the CC universe. There has got to be some version of the internet though, probably merged with alien internets. Uni* seemed appropriate. It can't be a too satisfying place to be, because the universe would be a pretty dull place if everyone are just brains sitting there having a perpetual orgasm.
The slide of the virtual world in the intro bothers me the most (art quality-wise). I did three failed attempts at remaking it the other day. It's a big challenge for me to illustrate situations which doesn't involve stuff shooting at each other.
Hopefully I'll get to the Imperatus soon.

Re: Concept art
You know what would be fun but too extensive to ever be in CC? Hacking games. For instance, not only do you make war in real time, but there's also the option to hack other Brains/AIs/Aliens in the UC (for things like stealing funds, stealing bodies in real time, or in some cases disabling/killing other Brains/AIs/Aliens.
