(For anyone who didn't get it, that last post was a joke. It's sad how I have to insert a ":P" in there for people to understand that. Still, why would I be serious about Whitty exploding? >_>)

Cont: Anger? Enh? I thought that was a pretty calm last post, but maybe I didn't think about how people would interpret it enough.
Still, I've personally lost respect for him. He could have ignored the tweet altogether and not have had to lie in the first place.

EDIT:
Alcohol is much more addictive than marijuana probably is, so the trafficking of that was probably much worse than anything now.
Still, I'd think it is comparable, as a "black market" has been formed.

ACTUALLLLLY, trafficking weed accounts for like 80 percent of the cartels' income (this is a number out of my ass), and marijuana prohibition is ten times worse because of society's stigma against it, which means people have less qualms about prosecuting harshly for it. Marijuana prohibition is largely responsible for a lot of society's problems, and almost all of its gang-related ones. So no, alcohol prohibition wasn't even close.

There's a number and I remember it being close to this % in mind blowingness but I can't find it atm

I disagree, but I have no evidence to show, and neither do you, it seems.

Are we at an impasse?

(and there's no doubt money IS being made off of marijuana, but I don't think that it's NEARLY that much.)

It's up to you MLC, if you want to remain ignorant and misinformed go ahead and do nothing. If you feel like being enlightened/proven wrong go do some simple Google searches.

edit: where's your post man?

A lot of society's problems? (>20%?)
No way, Jose, that's what I'd call delusional.

Still, neither of us really have evidence to show it seems. Or at least, neither of us care to shovel it up.

alaifain: I deleted it because I wanted to check my facts a bit more before actually posting. My opinion didn't change much.

From what else do they get their income?

I would assume (yes, assume) that the majority of income comes from drugs, and it is surely obvious that the quantity shifted is more important than the price for which they are sold.
That is especially true for recurring fees, so I don't think it's unlikely that cannabis is the main source of income for criminal organisations.

I think legalization is a good idea from the governments standpoint. It would create a large tax revenue, and also make it easier to regulate (less cutting/rippoffs, harder for minors to get hands on (sorry guys)), Where I live, from what I can tell, Its way easier to get weed then say, Booze. It would also hurt drug cartels, though it wouldn't necessarily be a death Neal. not to mention, it would take away allot of the appeal it has to young beginners trying to be rebellious. (from the governments standpoint)

http://www.usatoday.com/news/topstories ... 7072_x.htm

This is an article which i linked in the last page.

"Walters said the U.S. government is seeking additional resources to prosecute traffickers of marijuana, which now earns cartels about $8.5 billion or about 61 percent of their annual estimated income of $13.8 billion. Cocaine sales earn the cartels about $3.9 billion, and methamphetamine about $1 billion, he said."

That paragraph is contained in the article.

What do you think?

Except Mexican officials have been debating the legalization of marijuana as a way to undermine the cartels for a while now, and that was why a few recent political assassinations were recently carried out.
You saw this in IRC but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91y9KqvVggY
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 03847.html
Quote:
While the trafficking of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine is the main focus of U.S. law enforcement, it is marijuana that has long provided most of the revenue for Mexican drug cartels. More than 60 percent of the cartels' revenue -- $8.6 billion out of $13.8 billion in 2006 -- came from U.S. marijuana sales, according to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Who is lying here? 61% or 80%?

Also, Ophanim promptly banned me from the DRLFF IRC for no good reason; other than a disagreement he had with me over this subject, which I would call being immature.
(Good thing is I don't really use Daman's IRC channel too much.)

Are you sure Oph isn't referring to the 61% figure?
Also, this is dangerously close to becoming unproductive discussion, chill a bit.

I don't know what your point is anymore but

He was talking about 61%, the number found in the articles that both myself and Ophanim have posted, NOT the post where he explicitly stated that he was making the number up

Code:
[15:24]   <CrazyMLC>   ComradePyro: I changed my post a while ago. Did you not notice?
[15:24]   <ComradePyro>   "my opinion didn't change much"
[15:24]   <CrazyMLC>   I no longer mention the money being made, because after deleting my post and checking I realize I know nothing
[15:24]   <CrazyMLC>   My OPINION
[15:25]   <CrazyMLC>   My opinion is still that they don't make quite as much as what you say off of marijuana alone
[15:25]   <ComradePyro>   except I'm not saying it
[15:25]   <CrazyMLC>   ^
[15:25]   <ComradePyro>   the NDCP is
[15:25]   <ComradePyro>   so it's not really opinion
[15:25]   <ComradePyro>   it's sort of fact
[15:26]   <ComradePyro>   uh
[15:26]   <ComradePyro>   I pulled the specific numbers out of my ass
[15:26]   <ComradePyro>   then backed them up
[15:26]   <ComradePyro>   with data from a government organization
[15:26]   <ComradePyro>   which is just about the only thing that will back it up

EDIT: Basically, he seems pretty damn sure that it's 80%, and no lower.
