They get thinner and thicker at points.

The only points on those curves that look odd to me is where they go vertical.

They're not really lines since they're rails, they've got depth to them. Treat the darker gray and lighter gray as two different circles stacked on top of each other and it should look better. The curves are straight out of the elipse tool so I'm pretty sure they're decent in terms of isometric circularity.

the elipse tool is quite bad for pixelart really.

It makes a little more flattened curve looks like (with a 2:1 w/h ratio). Still, with some ratio tweaking I think it should work just fine.

Light blue is from the tutorial MLC posted and the darker blue is what came out of the elipse tool.

The rails look fine to me, but it does depend on what program you're using.

Some of them are shockingly bad at circles, I admit.

Attempting a sprite worthy of Indie Brawl.
The outline makes it look better, imo, when i was making it i thought it looked terrible but then i put the outline on and my eyes thanked me.

It looks a little too blurry for my tastes... Not that interesting of a character- just some girl. She looks fat. >_>

Duh: I went up close and started to mess with them, and the contrast on those sidewalks/rails is really low. I could barely tell that there were two colors there... :/
Pixel art is all about abusing contrast!

Also, the tiles are rife with banding.

Otherwise, not too shabby.

EDIT:

Or even worse, stuff like this:

This is BANDING THE ULTIMATE (or more handily I dub it 'staircase banding') and it makes my heart bleed. Obviously these are not spotted in the Spelunky art because wherea Derek Yu might or might not be very theoretically aware of the banding effect as discussed in this text, like any good pixel artist, he certailny must find gross errors like the above aesthetically insulting even on an artistic-instinctual level.

(The horror!)

Looks pretty good, but you could definitely cut down on the shades and the saturation.

Most characters have like, two shades for every colour.

Image for style comparison Image
I've made the difference between light and dark sharper
I included the sprites from the original game.
She has no arms on this one.

And again for comparison between old and new. Image Image

Well from looking at the original sprites she may be a short fat girl, but then again it could just be a chibi style. (Useless fact: There's an 'effect' on the game that makes her fat). Also, the character is Madotsuki from Yume Nikki (I hope this doesn't become an addiction), which surprisingly has a pretty large Fanbase/cult following.

And, she has a knife. :P
