Re: Sprite Help Thread
OMG What are you doing touching my Girlfriend-like Sprite!?!? Just kidding... Thanks Naxx, I was leaning a little towards the right one but a little smoothing from your edit and i quite like it now. I decided to completely revisite my Soldier so tell me if he looks any good. I'll also add him wearing the other helmet in-case it looks better on him. OR

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Hmmm... Second one. The helmet's details on the first guy are a little meldy.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I think the chest plate should be more round in design.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I think of my sprites as filthy little ladies, tbh.
Coop: Composition wise, your helmet and legs look really sleek and high tech, while the chest plate is bulky and low tech. Really clashes for me.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Hey all, I'm looking to build a mech for the Coalition. I could use feedback and suggestions on the overall look of the sprites. For size comparison purposes I popped in a soldier so you can see how big it is. *Also, there's a nifty little streamlined palette in the file that I feel fits right in to this thread. Took me forever to make, lol Edit: So, I've decided for various reasons NOT to make this a crab-mech. SO i've resprited some things and now this is what I've got going on.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
It looks like it was drawn at an odd angle, rather than sprited. Everything could use more outlining. The upper body coloring and shading look nice. The gun and lower body look too organic, and the legs don't match with anything.
To make the image display itself, you need to click the link above the attachment box when you upload it. It should take you to a window with just the image. Right click the image and click properties, copy the link you see there, and put that link into your post with image tags.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Yea, I'm having some trouble with the legs and feet. I'm curious what you mean by the odd angle though?
Also, I'm hoping to get the cockpit to swivel open and have a dropship-like tractor beam admit a pilot. Before I really get my heart set on something like that, do you think (with all your expertise) that it is even possible?

Re: Sprite Help Thread
By "drawn," I mean it doesn't look like it's computer-generated. I say "odd angle" because some lines that look like they should be straight, aren't straight (like the gun).
If you only need the mech to eject an actor, it is completely possible. A relatively simple Lua script can rotate the cockpit open, create an actor above that area, and then give it a small velocity so it doesn't hit the mech.
If you want the mech to take in actors too, it can also be done with Lua, but it'll be a tad more complicated.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Can't one just pin an invisible craft to it and have that gib when the mech gibs too?

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Crafts have a neat feature where they gib themselves when upside-down for a few seconds. There's no point in using Lua to accomplish something in a crude way when you can do it better in a non-crude way.
And if you mean ini code only, Lua will do this job better than ini.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
It looks like a dropship engine gib. What look are you trying to go for? You should sprite the general shape of your gun, add details, and shrink/expand the sprite when you need to, instead of adding random parts to another sprite (unless if it's supposed to look like that...). Then it'll be easier to fix.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Alright, just like to say I think it's great that people are putting the time in to not only post sprites, but critique other people's as well. Big props Naxx and Cricket. After finals I'll have time to do edits and stuff, but I think you guys are doing an even better job right now than I could running full steam.

I'd work on changing the design, because to be completely blunt: the body looks like a weird orange barrel. The closest foot is yellow, while the body and head are orange, while the back foot is a dark orange. It looks like they're painted different colors entirely, which is a fashion fo-pah on the battlefield.
