I'd repeat Contrary's advice: working with strictly one colour is probably not the best move, unless it's specifically themed that way. I'd also reiterate that contrast is an important thing; you've got to make sure that people can tell apart the different parts of the gun, and that it's not just a indistinct blob. I do like the shape of the gun, it's got a recognisable silhouette. This is what I've done with it: (Sorry if you didn't want me to edit it, I can remove it if you wish) I've tried to add extra contrast and break up the monotony to a degree (the grips and stock are now plain grey instead of navy grey), and the magazine is a lighter colour (judging from reference photos of the original gun). I hope this gives you a better idea of where to go (although if my effort is pants then listen to someone else). Try and get darker shadows and lighter highlights. It can be hard to judge how far to go with the contrast sometimes; trial and error, comparing it with other gun sprites, will all be useful.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I have a strange problem... In buying mode that gun looks weird but when buy it and use it, it looks normal until I turn left(!?)... I'm pretty sure that sprite is on the pallette because the pallete is from the forum. So this what I have done so far: Used photoshop in RGB mode (8bit - channel). Saved it as BMP ---> BMP options: Depth 24bit And also this is my second sprite so any tips?

Re: Sprite Help Thread
Oh it should be in indexed mode and use custom pallette. I was thinking something about that. And sorry for not reading close enough.

Not a problem. Just remember that the forum has a good deal of resources available, such as the stickied topics and the search function. Exploiting these to their fullest will make modding much easier.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
See, my best tip to try and avoid this is to have a copy of one of the original sprites on hand; when you make a new sprite, use it as a base. You don't have to worry about converting the image, and you have the palette ready to use from the start. I do use Graphics Gale, though, and that loads the palette with the sprite.

Re: Sprite Help Thread
I'll stay stick to photoshop as I've used it 5-7 years I haven't really made any pixel art not to mention of using pallette! So is there any way to do this without indexed mode because it drives me crazy!

My mac computer can't save graphical images with low enough quality for Cortex to use. None of the programs or techniques suggested have helped with this problem. If you have some other solution please tell me any ideas you come up with, otherwise I think I'm just going to post my graphics and have someone with another computer simply open and save them and then post them for me to recover.

Listen to MGuard, I also recommend use photoshop, very easy to apply the pallete without many "colorape" And the Photoshop CS4 have 3600% option of zoom, fact that helps pixel spriters

Left one. I like the look that it's got angles and edges in the visor.
