Description from Wikipedia.

Red Dead Redemption gives the player a large, open world environment allowing the player to move freely. Players on foot can walk, talk, shoot, kill, ride, run, interact with the environment, and combat enemies with firearms. Different breeds of horses are the main forms of transportation. Swimming is not an option, as the protagonist John Marston cannot swim and will drown if the player ventures too far into a body of water (though he is able to wade where the water is shallow enough).[7]
The open world environment allows players to choose how they want to play. Storyline missions are for progress. Along with the main storyline, players can take part in random events they encounter as they explore the West. These include public hangings, ambushes, pleas for assistance, and dangerous animal attacks. Players can also take part in optional side activities ranging from standoffs, gambling, and hunting animals for pelts and meat.
Red Dead Redemption makes use of a morality system where players have the ability to gain positive or negative 'honor'. Some of the ways to gain positive honor include taking an outlaw alive instead of killing him, or saving a kidnapped innocent. Negative honor can be attained for committing crimes including killing and/or robbing civilians. This works along with another system, 'fame,' showing and governing how people react based on Marston's honor status.[8]

I'm pretty excited about this game, it looks interesting setting wise, and the gameplay looks fun as well. For those you who want to play online Post your PSN's OR XBL user names.

I got it first day of release, and it's really ♥♥♥♥ amazing. The open world is big enough that...well, it's big. But then, it's small enough that it doesn't take forever to go between one town to another. Also, hunting is fun, and there's nothing funner than drawing your revolver and murdering everyone in a saloon in less than 3 seconds (using DeadEye). So it's got epic gunfights, shitloads of random events, tons of sidemissions, lots of distractions like hunting, flowerpicking and treasurehunting, and a pretty good story. It's better than just 'GTA: Wild West'.

So, say, you can go into a saloon, and start a shoot up? That's cool.

I can see it now, some outlaw with a big old bandoleer, mustache, and unkempt hair, picking flowers down by the river...
Wait, what?

I've been playing it, you really need to have a strong interest in the cowboy setting since things can get repetitive quickly. The gunplay (and lasso-ing) is amazing and there's plenty of sidequests/random events to keep things interesting. The multiplayer takes those fun side-things out like random stranger events and skinning animals. You can still pick flowers with your friends though.

It is not an intensive action game, very laid back which I sort of didn't expect. I am comparing it to GTA which is way busier than red dead. My biggest beef is the train is removed for multiplayer, I think. Haven't seen it yet.

If you like cowboys, bolt action weapons, and gambling then buy it.

I don't have it, but my replacement is Mount&Blade with the 1866 mod.
